Internet argues over the latest optical illusion – do you see a clown or a dog?
We can only see a dog, but apparently, a photo going around is supposed to also look like a little boy/clown. And we’ll be honest – maybe we just don’t want to see that.
The photo in question is of a senior Labrador retriever.
But what do you see at first glance when looking at it?
I can see both. Creepy clown boy then the dog. What do y’all see? (IG: _taxo_ ) pic.twitter.com/sVFOSrqxzG

Don’t see the clown? Try this tip from a Twitter commenter:
“I see the creepy boy! It’s like he ate a ton of Oreos and it’s all over his mouth. Ppl: tilt your phone a bit, could help. The boy is kinda looking down. The dog’s nose is the boy’s eyes.”
Now, if you’re still only seeing a dog, you might just want to consider yourself lucky.
But people never stopped trying to help, no matter how unhelpful they actually were.

Finally, someone managed something a little more helpful, though we think it’s a stretch.

Ok, now we want to unsee it!
The picture started circulating on the Internet in mid-September and is the result of a phenomenon called pareidolia in which people see shapes, patterns, figures, and faces in unrelated things (such as seeing a cloud that looks like an animal).
Now, we’re not sure we buy the claim that this is causing real strife of a “massive divide of opinion,” but we do know that people love arguing online and trying to prove they’re smarter than others.
We saw the same thing happen with the “is it blue or is it gold” #DressGate and the “Yanny and Laurel” audio meme. The main difference there’s actually a right answer in this particular debate – it’s most definitely a picture of a dog.
But some people harkened back to older memes.

Of course, it’s easier to see what people are talking about when they crop or rotate or otherwise modify the photo – but that’s not exactly the same as being able to simply see one and then the other.
But the crop does help – and we hate it.
It would be one thing if it were a simply silly clown, but it’s more of a demon spawn kind of thing.
If you’re into these kinds of illusions, perhaps you missed a particularly tricky one in August of 2018.
Do YOU see a beach or a door?
Is this a door or a beach??? Hahahaha😖🙄 pic.twitter.com/f4DZ7MZzGy

Totally a door, right? You can see the paint!
Well, you’d be wrong about that. (Don’t worry, this one really blew our minds AND caused controversy.)
It’s a beach.

Then again, the second photo had some people Photoshopped in.
At the end of the day, we’re truly not sure if these are all kind of silly or they really are forcing our brains to get a workout.
