This genius adult "ice cream truck" delivers frozen cocktails right to your front door

It’s too bad none of us can leave the house right now, otherwise we’d be packing up and moving to Houston!

Why, you ask? Is it the amazing Tex-Mex? The affordable cost of living? The unrelenting humidity?

No, it’s the booze truck!

As staying home and social distancing look to be the safest ways to remain coronavirus-free well into the summer (and probably beyond), many of us are wondering just how we’re going to cope.

Or, more accurately, we’re wondering who exactly is going to bring us enough frozen cocktails to cope.

Summer was already tough for many people since kids are out of school, but it’s likely that (in addition to already having been home for a month or two) summer camps and other activities that normally keep the young ones occupied will be canceled.

Staying sane is going to be a tall order.

The thought of parks, pools, beaches, and restaurants being closed down during the beautiful weather is beyond depressing. Even worse there will almost certainly be no mingling on the patio while trying to balance your BBQ and cocktail. Apparently, we should have appreciated all the small talk we were forced to make at last year’s summer parties.

But the Houston restaurant Bovine & Barley is trying to keep spirits up, quite literally, with a food truck loaded with frozen to-go cocktails.

From Moscow Mules to Margaritas, Daquiris to Piña Coladas, and 5 different flavors of Mojito, Bovine & Barley is coming to the rescue of adults everywhere (well, everywhere within a limited part of Houston). All you have to do is text them!

Cocktails with a single shot cost $9, a double costs $16, and the party package that you are inevitably going to need to order if you’re stuck in the house with your kids all summer is $55 and includes 375ml of alcohol. So get 2.

Of course, this brilliant idea means they can hardly keep up with demand. People around the area are begging for the truck to come to their neighborhood – and we would be too.

While liquor laws are different in every state, we can only imagine that more restaurants – especially those who already have food trucks – will look into such ventures.

But don’t expect a truck to drive down your street blasting “Escape (The Piña Colada Song)” just yet – in fact, the last thing we want is adults congregating in a small area with booze to cloud their judgment. Other cocktail-preneurers would do well to take a page from Bovine & Barley’s book and keep things safe.

Upon ordering (you need to purchase food in order to get cocktail delivery), they will construct your cocktail kit, and bring it to your door (hopefully while being tipped very well!).

The coronavirus pandemic has forced nearly all businesses to get creative and the restaurant industry looks like it will take some of the biggest hits over the coming months. Even fine dining restaurants have been forced to start some sort of delivery or carry-out service just to make ends meet.

While not every restaurant will be able to afford their own food truck full of DIY cocktails, it’s important to keep our eyes open for ways to support the industry and its workers if we can afford it.

We’re pretty jealous of Houston right now, but surely each city and town will come up with its own way to placate the summer crowds and keep it safe.

In the meantime, the rest of us will just have to cry into any old cocktail we make ourselves – perhaps our tears will salt the rim.
