College clogging dance group sets stage on fire with unique performance

If thereā€™s one dance style that gets peopleā€™s attention, itā€™s clogging. Sometimes, itā€™s confused with tap dancing and while there are similarities, the two genres are different. This folk dance involves dancers who strike either the heel or toe (or both) of their shoes on a hard floor. The goal is to create a noticeable clicking sound generated from each strike.

For this dance, cloggers keep their arms straight to their sides. That means the feet do all the work. In recent years, clogging has been fused with other dance styles, creating something new but without eliminating the traditional moves. There are five categories of this dance style, which include cadence clogging, shuffle clogging, stomp clogging, buck-dancing, and rhythm clogging. Of these, shuffle clogging is the most popular.

14 college students showcase their incredible clogging skills

A group of college cloggers that hails from Lincoln, Nebraska, has taken the internet by storm. They go by the name, Tap This!, In a recent performance, they blew the audience away with their undeniable level of skill. As for the music, they chose ā€œUptown Funkā€ by Bruno Mars. Although a fast-paced and high-energy dance, they didnā€™t miss a step.

The audience waits in anticipation

In a video thatā€™s now been viewed almost one million times, you see the students as they take center stage. With big smiles on their faces, they have a definite sense of confidence even before they start clogging. Even without taking their first steps, people attending the event can feel the electricity in the air.

Then the music starts

The second Uptown Funks starts to play, you see feet stepping to the beat. Every move is flawless and in perfect time with the tempo. Even early on in the video, the audience couldnā€™t stop applauding. This group exploded with energy, which spread throughout the crowd.

Itā€™s a perfect rhythmic sequence

As stated, clogging doesnā€™t involve hand movements. But because of the music these college students chose, they had more freedom. Throughout the one-and-a-half-minute video, they switch back and forth between hip-hop and clogging. Whoever choreographed this piece deserves a standing ovation. Itā€™s that good.

Simply breathtaking

As different points, they come together in a line thatā€™s spot on. Every movement they make is synchronized, making it hard to look away in fear of missing something. At the 40 second mark, their feet move at lightning speed. You can hear gasps coming from the audience. Thatā€™s just one time when the audience goes wild. Throughout the performance, you hear whistles and whoops.

They take advantage of the whole stage

Some dance groups stay in pretty much one area. But one of the many things that made this dance number by Tap This! So incredible is the dancers spread out and transitioned from front to back and vice versa. Iā€™ve watched a lot of professional dancers on the internet and television and Iā€™m here to tell you, these might be college students, but they outshine even some of the best experts.

Full speed ahead

Itā€™s hard to imagine going as hard as they do for so long while giving a flawless performance. For this clogging routine, there are no nulls in time. From start to finish, itā€™s full speed ahead. Oh my gosh, this group is so good, it doesnā€™t seem real. Not only are their dance moves spectacular but so is their degree of athleticism.

How do they do it?

Iā€™m sure the answer to that is years of practice combined with the talent of an amazing dance instructor. With each dancer dressed in khaki pants, light-colored shoes, and black shirts, itā€™s easy to see just how coordinated their every move is. Shoot, Iā€™d pay good money to grab a performance of Tap This!.
