There’s something incredibly fascinating about getting a glimpse into someone’s house build project. Even more interesting is when a person manages to build a home with a surprisingly low budget.

College student Bradley is someone who was able to build an entire house, complete with furniture and its own yard, for just $15,000. He currently lives in his new home in Jacksonville, Florida, and he’s been sharing his project online for intrigued internet users like us.

Amazingly, Bradley didn’t need much to get his home looking like it does today – just some recycled material and a little help from his friends. Here’s the much anticipated tour of his home:

We start at the home’s exterior, which is panelled with blue vinyl sliding. The porch, at a humble 5 feet wide, is painted in complementary white.

There’s a tiny window and a door, which leads us straight into the home.

When you walk into the home, you find yourself in the living room, dining room and kitchen in one. There are lots of nifty space-saving hacks in here, including a dining table that folds into the wall when not in use, and a movable kitchen island that spends most of its time against the wall, where it blends in with the rest of the furniture.

Kitchen

The kitchen is in the center of Bradley’s home, which gives us an idea of what ranks most important to him! There you can find an 8-foot counter, along with a a sink, a fridge, an oven, and pretty much every other basic essential you’d expect to find in a kitchen. There is a microwave, by the way – it’s just tucked out of sight when Bradley isn’t using it. The same goes for his portable, 2-burner stove.

Unsurprisingly, everything from Bradley’s heating to his cooking facilities are electric. Electric devices are known for being space-saving and budget-friendly, though Bradley has left room for a gas conversion if he changes his mind in the future.

Corner office

As a student, there will come moments when Bradley has no choice but to get on with some actual work, but with a cosy corner office looking out into the Floridan landscape, we don’t think we’d complain too much if we were him. He has a corner desk for holding his laptop, plus plenty of drawers for storage, and a closet just out of shot.

Also out of shot is a loft, which Bradley uses as a bedroom. He can reach it by climbing a ladder. We’d imagine he spends a lot of his time alone up here, though he does have a roommate in the form of a Brazilian rainbow boa constrictor named Peanut. We’re not sure we’d want to share such a tiny space with a large snake, but perhaps that’s just us!

Surviving the elements

Bradley’s home has been through a lot since it was built. As all Floridians will know, the region’s weather is unpredictable to say the least, and one storm left the tiny house flooded. There was damage to the flooring and insulation, and they had to be replaced. Luckily, one of Bradley’s neighbors helped him out by offering some of their spare flooring as a free replacement. Bradley was back living in his home within a month.

What do you think of Bradley’s tiny $15,000 home? Could you live in it?
