There is a popular saying that it takes a village to raise a child. It is unknown where the saying comes from. However, the message it sends is universally clear — teamwork is needed to produce good results.

Cooperation and joint effort are needed in many situations. However, it becomes especially crucial when lives are at stake. In a recent video posted on The Dodo’s Facebook page, we see how one group’s collaboration lead to the rescue of a trapped leopard.

This poor leopard fell into a deep well

In the beginning of the video, we see a leopard swimming inside a well. Unfortunately, he is not there for pleasure. He is trapped. This becomes obvious as he tries to latch on to the wall so he can climb up.

After trying for some time, he decides to stop trying

After many attempts to get out, the leopard slumps onto a nook. He seems deflated. We do not know how long he has been inside the well but his behaviour shows that he is hungry and in need of a rest.

These kind humans come to the rescue

When some people around see our friend’s predicament, they decide it’s time for them to intervene. They come together to plan a rescue. They do not hesitate to help him even though leopards have a sporadic history of attacking humans.

Even without any equipment, they persevere

To get the animal out, the villagers create a makeshift rescue equipment out of strings and a cot. They make sure that the cord is long enough to reach our friend. They also do strong knots so it would be really strong to hold a leopard of his size.

They do some heavy lifting

To begin the rescue, the villagers lower the improvised rescue tool. At this point, the leopard is so tired that they had to nudge him to move. He eventually steps onto the cot. The rescuers puts all their strength into carrying the leopard to a safe height.

He is finally out

The leopard is finally brought out of the well. When he realizes this, he looks a bit disoriented. He could not believe that he is on dry land again. He slowly walks into the fields and roves around carefully.

He is free at last

The people’s kindness continues as they make sure that the leopard goes back to his habitat. Since leopards and humans are mutually suspicious of each other, they keep a safe distance. This does not stop them from monitoring his whereabouts and making sure he regains his strength.

This video also rescued people’s faith in others

This event is especially impressive because it was done without special equipment nor machinery. All it took was the bravery and determination of a group of people who decided that every life is worth saving. They worked together and it made them succeed. One Facebook comment captures the beauty of the entire experience: “Great work folks! It’s a beautiful thing to get together in an act of pure compassion for a vulnerable creature….”
