Famous conjoined twins Brittany and Abby get first job as math teachers
Abigail Loraine Hensel and Brittany Lee Hensel are dicephalic parapagus – otherwise known as conjoined – twins. The women have fairly normal proportions in their heads and bodies and have been trying to live the most normal life possible for two people with their condition.
The Hensel sisters each have a separate heart, stomach, spinal cord, and pair of lungs. They do, however, each control one leg and have to rely on masterful cooperation to walk. But these young women are so adept at maneuvering the lower half of their body that they can now swim, run, and drive a car!
However, they do have very separate personalities as well, with different interests and the desire to each marry someday. And as you might imagine, they have to agree on everything, from the big to the small details. When they went off to college, they even had to agree on a major because doing two was simply too much work to manage.
In case you were wondering, the two cannot be separated and their parents elected not to have them undergo surgery as babies because there was little chance they would both survive.
Born in 1990 in Minnesota, much of their lives have been chronicled on news programs, talk shows – including The Oprah Winfrey Show – and they even starred in their own reality series on TLC in 2012. That’s the same year the women graduated from Bethel University in Minnesota with a Bachelor’s degree in education.
Now the two are pursuing their dreams as math teachers – this was the subject of another documentary series about their lives.
Their mother chimed in with her feeling that this was the perfect career choice for both women.
“I think it’s gonna go well for them because they’ve just always had a knack with kids and kids have always kind of been drawn to them. You know, maybe it started by curiosity, but once their simple questions are answered, they are still just as drawn to Abb and Britt for some reason,” the proud mother told Naked Stories.
There were 175 applicants for the part-time position they applied for, but the principal was impressed first of all by their math knowledge but also the women’s’ “exuberance.”
The committee knew on the spot that they were perfect for the job.
The school principal said:
“I came into the room and before I even sat down one of the people said, ‘Run after them, hire them, give them the job!’”
And he did.
The women had a great experience as student teachers in their last year of college and both they and their students thrived in the classroom.
In a video shared by Naked Stories in February of 2018, the women got ready for their first day of class, setting up their room and preparing for students. The video has now been watched over 8.8 million times since then.
