Cop makes lasting impression on high schoolers when he 'deals with' unruly fan

This Appleton Police Officer owned the bleacher seats in this Wisconsin high school after he pulled a little joke on them

The students of this Wisconsin High school, like many of us when we were in high school, are quite the energetic sports fans. They cheer and yell from the sidelines, and fill up the field with deafening screams of positive energy.

Part of this high school is police officer Jack Taschner, who is on really good terms with the students. If you’ve ever gone to a school where everyone seems to be friends with the security guard or janitor, then you can probably relate.

Officer Taschner is so close with the students that he’s watched them cheer from the sidelines for 2 years. He’s pretty familiar with their practices.

So he decided to have a little fun, but he wouldn’t tell them how. See, Officer Taschner loves their cheer routines. He eventually wanted to join the fun. If you’ve ever seen sports crowds, you’d know that they have their own special routines that they do from their seats.

Some notable, classic examples are “The wave” and the “defense” chant at basketball games. Crowds obviously can’t be as intricate with their cheer routines as the cheerleaders out on the field, but they find a way. Appleton High School has a special routine they do from the seats.

It’s called “The Bus Driver”, and involves someone imitating a bus driver aggressively steering the bus while the “passengers” get thrown around their seats

Yes, it’s as crazy as it sounds. And this was the routine officer Taschner wanted to lead. So he thought of a simple, but totally genius plan to achieve that. He would pretend to confront and scold one of the students, Braden Hunter :

“It just kind of popped in my head, I’d like to join in on them doing their cheer, and whatever they do, the bus driver thing, so I came in Friday morning, I talked to the principals, I said hey, here’s what I thought, I had an idea, and they said, yea, run with it.”

The plan was simple: have someone act as an “unruly” fan in the crowd, then he would walk up to reprimand them, perhaps even handcuff them. It should be quite easy to set up when you’re already in uniform.

Officer Taschner was lucky to have a great assistant for the ruse. The student who traditionally led the bus driver cheer agreed to play along for Jack’s plan.

So he laid the foundations for his clever prank, and Braden played along according to plan

Jack Taschner’s sense of humor, and Braden’s willingness to play along are both commendable. The result is sheer joy.

“I did my best acting to make sure it was going to work out, and everyone thought I was going to get handcuffed or something and it was just fun to have him ask for my ID and he told me to take a seat like I was in trouble but then he took over,” Hutter said.

Braden acts out just like they planned. He does a convincing job of looking like an unruly fan needing some discipline. The officer then walks up, pretends to scold him and tells him to take a seat.

Then all of a sudden, he turns face and assumes the bus driver position. The students didn’t expect it, but they loved it.

He’s police captain and I’m on the bleachers

The overjoyed officer now has his chance. He grabs the imaginary wheel and swings to the side, and the students play the routine like they always do. They collectively swing to the side and shout as they get “thrown” around by the bus driver.

It’s excitement all around. Officer Taschner gives the occasional wild swinging of his forearm too. The student crowd is living for his energy and his spirit, and the give it their all as they perform the cheer.

The side-to-side swaying of the students is almost intimidating! Anyone who isn’t moving along with them would probably get squished. Thankfully, they’d had over 2 years to memorize this cheer routine, so no one’s getting squished today.

Officer got to have his wish, and he’s overjoyed.
