“Trying to enjoy my lunch and this urge, this abrupt urge, that’s the best way I can describe it, came and I ended up going to the call,” Officer Quintana told FOX5.

He arrived at the scene at Osaka Pearl Street where a woman was arrested for allegedly shooting her own husband. What’s more shocking about this tragic incident was the couple’s five innocent children were all present in their house when the crime happened.

Unlike the usual, the crime scene broke officer Quintana’s heart into smithereens. He felt terribly sorry for the poor kids who lost their parents in a such traumatizing way. The children were only between six to seventeen years old, all far from the maturity of fully understanding what happened to their family.

“Wow. That’s sad. That’s extremely sad because now these kids are going to go to Child Haven,” Quintana said.

Turns out, the police officer could totally relate to what the children went through.

When he was still a young boy, Officer Quintana also lost his father whose life was taken by another family member. The feeling of losing a parent in such a tragic way wasn’t new to him at all, that’s why he wanted to go above and beyond his sworn duty to help the kids who were just victims of this cruel world.

He decided to foster all five of them.

“These thoughts like, ‘Hey, take the kids in,’ and I’m like, ‘What?’” the kind police officer said while trying to recall what went through his thoughts while he was at the crime scene.

When he got home after finishing his shift that day, he told his wife, Amanda, about his plan to take the children into their home. Knowing how the foster care system works, Quintana didn’t want the kids to be separated from each other.

It’s time to meet the kids.

After three days of contemplating, the couple went to Child Haven to meet the children. There, they had the chance to talk to them and know each of them more.

Two days after their visit, all seven of them went home – as a family.

“I look at the kids and I say, ‘Hey, look, the reason why we’re here is because I had a thought,” said Quintana recalling the day they met the kids. “I’d like to take every single one of you. I’d like to take you in our home.’ And the 16-year-old gasped for a sec and said, ‘Really?’ and I said, ‘Yeah,’ and of course, the oldest one says, ‘All of us?’ and I said, ‘Every single one of you.’”

Quintana has always wanted to be a father himself, a figure that he didn’t have while growing up.

From a family of two to seven.

The Quintanas couldn’t be more thankful for how things turned out in the end. Yes, it’s a huge adjustment for each of them, but it’s something they’d wholeheartedly do.

To help officer Quintana with expenses, the North Las Vegas Police Officers Association set up a GoFundMe for the family and managed to raise over $69,000.

The kind police officer who’s now a foster father admitted that the experience has been both “humbling” and “amazing.” It’s indeed a challenge but he’s willing to give his all just to provide for the kids.

Let’s all stay tuned to this beautiful story and hope that it’ll soon have its happy ending.
