Police officers accept dance challenge and show off smooth moves to Backstreet Boys

Who said cops can’t sing and dance? I’m sure someone…but they’d be wrong. At least one video proves that some people in law enforcement can get down with the best of them. You know the thing about people who work as cops is that most of them love a good challenge. That’s one reason so many of them end up patrolling the streets of different communities.

Working under an oath to “protect and serve,” cops take their jobs seriously. At the same time, you have to remember they’re everyday people just like you and me. That means a lot of them have a great sense of humor. So, what happens when you challenge a group of police officers to a lip-synching contest? You end up with a video that goes viral, that’s what.

You have to love the men and women in blue from Saskatoon, Canada

In this part of Canada, the Police Department was challenged to a lip-syncing contest. The music of choice – “I Want It That Way,” a classic Backstreet Boys song. Of course, they weren’t going to turn down such a great offer. Instead, they wanted to show people just how much talent, or lack of, they had.

Bring it on

These police officers weren’t joking around…well, maybe a little…okay, a lot. The video is so funny that it’s already been viewed by more than 1.2 million people and counting. It begins with a lineup. It’s not your ordinary lineup but one with five cops in uniform. To help identify the “culprit,” each one lip syncs a small bit of the song’s chorus.

But this is just the beginning of a hilarious video.

Roughly one minute into the video, the music comes on full force with police officers standing in front of a plane. Even funnier, they’re all making the cute little heart signs with their hands. You have to admit, they’re pretty good. Each one of them hits the words perfectly. But it’s their body and hand gestures that’ll have you rolling on the floor.

It’s obvious they’re dedicated

Just like in a professional music video, the camera takes the cops to different locations. Each time, they lip sync perfectly. Is it a little scary to you that so many buff cops know all the words to a Backstreet Boys’ song? I’m just wondering. Regardless, they do an outstanding job.

Get the K9 in the shot

No law enforcement lip sync contest would be complete without the department’s K9. The next thing you know, the video is inside of Tim Hortons. You’ve probably heard plenty of cop and donut jokes so this is priceless. While still in perfect time with the music, one female officer peers through a display of mouth-watering donuts. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it.

They’re not finished yet

Have you ever seen police officers in superhero costumes lip-syncing to the Backstreet Boys? After watching the video, you can say you have. That’s right, several of the cops done costumes of their favorite characters. They even bring in the SWAT team, complete with an armored vehicle. Does it get any better?

Why yes, it does

For five minutes, viewers are thoroughly entertained. Just like they do when serving their community, these police officers went above and beyond to make this a contest to remember. You’ve got a smoke machine, flashing lights, and an entire group of men and women who nailed it. What more could you ask for?

Not only was this fun for the officers who volunteered their time to make the video but it’s also a great way to let the public see they’re normal people. Are they tough? Yes. But they’re also human. Way to go guys and gals…job well done.
