Detroit cops find malnourished mama dog and her puppies in abandoned home and save them

Things aren’t always as they seem.

When Detroit Police officers responded to a call regarding a “vicious dog” they went to investigate. What they found was far from what they were expecting, however.

The so-called “vicious dog” was a malnourished pit bull who had recently given birth to a litter of puppies.

Officers H. Kourani and G. Rogers found the dog and her young ones inside an abandoned home.

Officers earn the trust of the pit bull.

The officers slowly approached the dog and earned her trust by laying out some treats for her. There is no easier way to earn the trust of a canine, after all.

After that, they entered the home.

“As soon as we turned that first corner into the living room, we saw a tiny brown puppy laying on top of a beat-up mattress,” Kourani told Fox News Digital.

Unfortunately, another puppy was inside the mattress with its head trapped in a spring. Officer Rogers was able to free the little guy, however.

Detroit Pit Crew Rescue took them in.

The officers brought the dogs to a local rescue organization where they would be taken good care of while staff there search for a forever home for them.

The dogs appeared to be in good health, albeit the mother was malnourished.

With temperatures dipping below freezing, the puppies may not have survived the night had they not been rescued.

They would sleep comfortably inside the shelter, however, under a nice warm blanket.

The rescue organization posted that there were better days ahead for both the mother dog and her puppies.

“Now mom and her puppies are safe and sound and on board with Detroit Pit Crew. Better days are ahead for this sweet family of dogs.”

Officers praised for rescuing them.

The police officers were just supposed to be investigating complaints about a vicious dog in the area.

When they found a mother dog and her puppies in need, however, they did the right thing and contacted the rescue organization.

Had they simply left the puppies there, they would not have survived.

Supporters thanked the officers on social media.

“Thank you for going above and beyond your call of duty!!! The puppies do look rather healthy fortunately, the one stuck in the coil may not have made it! I’m sure mama is happy to be on a nice warm blanket and getting lots of food to feed them little ones ❤️❤️❤️,” one person wrote.

Officer Kourani had the following to say regarding the rescue.

“Whether it’s an animal life or human life, we’re always going to do our best to try to protect and preserve it as much as possible.”

It’s a busy time of year for Detroit Pit Crew Dog Rescue. As temperatures drop below freezing, the situation can become quite dangerous for stray dogs in the area.
