Corgi runs up to stranger in airport and immediately knows he needs comforting

Airports are one of the best places for connecting strangers.

But in a Seattle airport, a different bond between strangers became a viral encounter not only because it’s adorable, but also heartwarming.

There’s a reason why dogs became man’s best friend. Because, unlike most animals, dogs have an uncanny sense of connection to humans, from joy to sorrow, sickness to health, danger to safety.

Madison Palm was traveling with her corgi named Cora.

They were on their way to Alaska from Idaho. Palm intends to visit her mother at that time. Beside her was her certified therapy dog Cora. And as a therapy dog, Cora travels with Palm all the time.

It was during a layover when Palm saw something really special. She approached a man just sitting a few chairs away from Palm.

She apologized to the man, not expecting an emotional answer.

“Before I could even call her she was already at his feet being loved on. I asked him if she was bothering him,” Palm recalled to TODAY. “And with a somber face and watery eyes he said, ‘No, no. I lost my dog last night.'”

At that moment, Palm decided to let Cora do what she does best. The dog stayed with the man for a while and enjoyed some scratches behind the ears. In return, Cora gave him the kind of love only dogs could give.

“I truly think she has a gift. She knows who is hurting and she knows who needs her,” she added. “Once he told me that his dog passed away I looked at Cora and I thought to myself, ‘You are so amazing. How did I get so lucky?'”

Cora found her way to Palms through Facebook.

While at the workplace, one of her co-workers who read Cora’s story mentioned to Palms that a corgi was killing some chicken and was bound to be given away to the first person who came for her.

Palm quickly left work to see Cora. She learned that the dog was underfed and was kept outside for as long as she could remember. She never had a tag or a cute collar. The only food she knew were pieces of scraps being thrown in her direction.

After learning more about her circumstances, Palm took Cora with her. While driving, Cora crawled on Palm’s lap and she knew she was the dog for her.

Cora’s life changed in the biggest ways.

Under Palm’s care, she knew what being clean and healthy meant. Instead of dirt, she has a bed and a whole yard. Seeing Cora’s capability, Palms placed her in the American Kennel Club’s canine good citizen program. Suffer bouts of anxiety, Palm admitted that Cora helps her stay calm. But it was not only her who knew about Cora’s gift.

“I am blown away by her on a daily basis. Who knew a dog who was unloved for 7 1/2 years could have so much love to give?” Palm said to TODAY. “I can’t change her past but I’m doing everything I can to make up for it.”

She truly is an amazing dog, and with Palm’s love, we hope she can touch more lives by sharing that small pocketful of kindness.
