Country dancers line up and break out seriously slick moves to hip-hop 'Wobble'
When we see country folks dance, they usually dance to some of the most popular and liveliest country songs.
But these folks did something different.
They performed their signature line dance and country dance steps to a hip-hop song, particularly “Wobble” by V.I.C.
Set in a country-western bar, these cowboys and cowgirls take to the dance floor with “Wobble” playing in the speakers. If you’re familiar with traditional country dances, then you know they usually do a line dance. And that’s still what they did here.
A handful of men and women have lined up and country danced their way through the song.
Some of the cowboys stepped it up a notch and created a modified version of the steps to make it more fun to watch. And some of the others simply watching saw how fun it was because of their moves.
Before they knew it, the dancing group was getting bigger with more men and women stepping up to join them.
And what’s really great about this line dance is it doesn’t matter if you can dance well or not. You’re free to join. It’s all in good fun anyway.
Even those who seemed reluctant joined in with the support of their friends. They danced with their own version of the line dance and had a good time, too.
Two cowboys at one end were determined to make it their own and make it fun at the same time. They performed modified dance steps, which really livened up the performance.
The other patrons who wanted to participate, but didn’t want to dance, cheered on the dancers instead.
This performance definitely livened up the atmosphere in this bar.
One would think though that this is such an unusual combination because come on, hip-hop and country? How will that work?
Unbeknownst to a lot of people, country music and hip-hop music have actually been mixed together to form another type of music for decades now.
They call it Country Rap, Hick-Hop or Rural Rap.
“Country rap is a musical style that combines the flow, production-emphasis, and demeanor of Hip Hop with the lyrical content and general approach of Country music. Pioneered in the early 2000s by Bubba Sparxxx and brought to the mainstream by the likes of Colt Ford, Cowboy Troy, and Big Smo during the latter end of the decade, the merges both rural and urban conventions to create a sound that is uniformly distinct from Contemporary Country music and often not as vulgar as hip-hop,” Rate Your Music explained on their forum.
Even though Bubba Sparxxx really made the country rap music come alive, country singer Neal McCoy was one of the firsts to include it in their country music line-up.
“Hillbilly Rap” is a novelty song, with a mash-up of “Banana Boat Song,” “The Ballad of Jed Clampett,” and “Rapper’s Delight” with a rock guitar riff and energetic hip-hop dance moves.
The new music genre continued with Bubba Sparxxx and his single “Ugly” in 2001.
Then in 2004, Big and Rich came out with a new single and video called “Save A Horse (Ride A Cowboy),” which was a successful and great mash-up of country and hip-hop music.
Since then, more and more country artists and hip-hop artists have collaborated together or have included the other style into their music.
Lil Nas is just one of the latest artists to do this when he featured country artist Billy Ray Cyrus in his single, “Old Town Road.”
Suffice it to say, country rap music, hick-hop, or rural rap is definitely here to stay.
