Brazilian country dancers go above and beyond with their “dancing cowboy” routine

If you think a group of Brazilian cowboys (and girls!) dancing to Norwegian music is just some lame stunt, think again.

Cowboy (or “gaucho”) culture is alive and well – and celebrated yearly – around Brazil and dance is always a part of the fun.

The members of the Cowboys Western Country Show have been going viral on YouTube for 12 years in a series of clips from a performance in which they engage in some very sophisticated line dancing (and beyond).

In their viral video, they chose a country-western song by a Norwegian singer to dance to. And to be honest, we didn’t even know such a thing existed!

But Heidi Hauge was one of the best-selling country artists in Scandinavia in the 1990s. And her song “Turn It On, Turn It Up, Turn Me Loose” turns out to be a great dance tune!

Hey, you learn something new every day, right?

The show they put on – it’s unclear where and when – is so popular that even a repost of their video a few years later in 2014 has over 7.6 million views!

And we can see why – these folks are awesome!

You can tell you’re in for something special simply by beholding the hat-handling skills of one of the dancers before they even begin.

It’s just a little flair to start things off on the right foot, so to speak.

Dressed in tight jeans, with the requisite cowboy boots, hats, and belt buckles, these folks really know how to put on a show!

They take their places in a straight line and then launch into some high side-kicks. (Guess those jeans aren’t too tight!)

Their moves are amazing, but between the poor quality of the video and the high quality of the audio, we can’t help but wonder if that was really the original song they were dancing to or if it was dubbed in later.

Then again, it matters very little since we’re just here to see their moves.

And they even get some air!

These cowboys and girls might spend a bit more time in the studio than they do on the ranch, but let’s face it – most people we see dressed like this don’t have a horse to speak of!

At least these dancers are keeping cowboy culture alive!

A little over 6 minutes into the video, the performers who had previously been in the back get their moment in the spotlight. And they definitely make the most of it.

The best part is that it looks like everyone is having so much fun.

That’s probably part of the reason dance videos, in general, are so popular on YouTube – it’s easy to get into the spirit of things when you see a good dancer having a good time.

No wonder this particular video has been viewed tens of millions of times in the last decade.

The end of the video either brings us a new location or a new angle, though there’s no break in the music. But we do get to see some foot-stomping, high-kicking solos!

It certainly makes us want to get off our feet – even if our best efforts aren’t going to look anything like these pros.
