Couple celebrates the birth of their 100th grandchild after being married over 60 years

When couples get older, their family grows bigger as well.

From kids to grandkids. And when given a chance, you’re able to meet your great-grandchildren or even great-great-grandchildren.

This couple has celebrated many births.

The Illinois residents made headlines when they welcomed their 100th grandchild.

Meet Leo and Ruth Zanger.

They’ve been married for more than 6 decades and already have over 100 grandkids.

Mind you, that is a lot. Not to mention each of their names.

The Zangers have so many grandkids that the picture frames can barely fit on their walls.

The 100th grandchild was born in 2015.

This was after years of anticipation.

When they realized they already reached 99 grandkids, there was a bit of a race on who would give birth to baby number 100.

Though not all are technically grandchildren, some are already great-grandkids for the couple.

But the designation doesn’t matter that much anymore when you have this many.

Needless to say, this family’s fruitful.

Jaxton Leo Zanger is number 100.

He’s also the 46th great-grandchild.

It’s mind-blowing who is still keeping count. The names would be a challenge to remember.

But surely they don’t mind if their grandpa or grandpa can’t remember each of them. As long as they are together.

To properly keep track, let’s start with the couple’s children.

Leo and Ruth had 12 children.

The eldest has a 27-year gap with the youngest. Also, the eldest who is already over 60, already had children of his own before the youngest of the siblings was born.

Family gatherings? They say it’s a grand reunion.

They often rent a church building since it’s the only venue that can fit all of them.

With this big of a family though, it’s an advantage when it comes to chipping in for the gatherings.

“When we get together, it’s big. It’s really big.” – said Donna Lane, one of Leo and Ruth’s daughters.

Dinner’s always lively and never boring.

“There are a lot of people — a lot of kids — but that’s what it’s all about. We always have a really good time.” – she added.

Imagine if some of them live in other states, not to mention countries.

That would be harder to pull them together in one gathering each time.

So, they live in one state.

Thankfully, all the family members live in Illinois. So family gatherings are never an issue.

It’s easy to set up schedules and attend since they’re all in one state.

Though the couple already reached a milestone with their 100th grandchild, Leo still thinks that it does not stop there.

“I expect there will be more. It wouldn’t surprise me any because there are a lot of young families there yet that are just getting started.”

Is a village in the works?

He even jokes that their family could start a small town. Well, that would be awesome.

The next grandchild is yet to be born, but clearly, there is never a dull moment with this family.

With all their birthdays, Christmas, New Year’s, Thanksgiving, or just a simple dinner gathering, they’re enjoying their life to the fullest.
