Young couple goes to adopt a cat, only to adopt hugging siblings who refused to be separated
As humans, we are used to physical contact. Whether it be a high-five, a pat on the back or even a hug. Animals, however, do not share this need for complex social relationships. Or so they say, anyway.
This appears to be particularly true regarding cats and kittens, whose ancestor, the African Wildcat, were notorious solitary predators.
People feel the need to hug their cats, but this doesn’t necessarily mean that their cats want to be hugged. In fact, usually it is the exact opposite.
So, maybe they’re not so hot on human affection, but what about inter-cat hugs? Do they exist?
Well, it might seem that cats who live together in the same house sometimes curl up and hug each other, but it could also mean that they feel warm in this position, thanks to the extra fur of their cuddle buddy. If that’s the case, it still doesn’t quite prove that they are snuggling out of a yearning for affection.
However, this is definitely not the case when it comes to Marlow and Mittens.
These two brother kittens are totally inseparable. They were found together as strays and were dropped off at the RSPCA shelter with nothing but each other for comfort.
The two boys seemed to enjoy each other’s company quite a bit. So much, in fact, that they had to be together all of the time.
Staff at the shelter, however, ultimately agreed that it would be fine to separate them and let them be adopted by different families. This way, they had better chances of finding forever homes quickly. Of course, they had no idea how determined these kittens were to stay together.
When Grace and her partner decided that they wanted a kitty, they headed over to the RSPCA website. They began looking at the kittens that were up for adoption and Marlow immediately caught their eye.
So, they decided to go to the shelter and meet the kitten in person.
On the day the couple arrived at the shelter, they thought they would be returning home with a cat in their arms. Little did they know, however, that they would be going home with no less than two of them!
Indeed, Marlow and Mittens had managed to melt their hearts.
When the couple went to see the kitty that had made such an impression on them, they came across the cutest sight ever.
The inseparable brothers had curled up to each other in a tight hug that clearly meant one was not leaving without the other. In the end, it all worked out as planned. Grace and her partner adopted both cats and they never regretted their decision.
โI myself was attached to Marlow,” Grace told The Dodo, “and my partner Jake was extremely fond of Mittens. After a long and hard deliberation, we decided it was either no cats or both cats, and letโs be honest, no cats is NEVER a good idea.โ A sentiment we can certainly agree with.
Going home with two kittens was something Grace and Jake were a bit nervous about.
Especially because they knew it would take them some time to adjust to the new environment, or so they thought. As it turned out, they couldn’t have been more wrong. The cats immediately fell in love with their new place and made it their own!
“They were initially inquisitive and then immediately made themselves right at home on our bed. They immediately claimed the place as their own and seemed extremely comfortable in their new home,” Grace explained.
We are glad these two besties found a loving forever home together, and we’re sure they’ll be sharing a LOT of adventures.
