Since that moment, the two have been connected. Their specialty is a particular dance style known as “swing” that originated in the ’20s and ’30s. Although it’s now a century later, dancers and performers like these two have kept swing alive.

The original style originated in Harlem and spread like wildfire.

Swing grew out of the Lindy Hop, an existing dance from Harlem, NY. The Lindy Hop spread all across the country and recently saw resurgence across the world as people expressedtheir skill, style, and love of history when they performed it. Since the 1980s, people have been touring to compete in championships and competitions across the world.

Why Sweden?

You might be thinking, “How is it that two people who met in Sweden became dancers of a dance with an American origin?” Good question. As it turns out, Sweden is the unofficial world capital for Lindy Hop! Europe really has a thing for American music from the ’30s, ’40s, and ’50s. Every year in Herrang, Sweden, the Herräng Dance Camp is held for five weeks annually.

If you still have any doubt that Sweden is the Swing dance capital, this video of Nils and Bianca are sure to convince you otherwise.

Watching them dance is almost trance-like. They move so fast and precise that it looks like you are watching the video on a higher playback speed. If you have ever watched Swing before, you can’t help but notice these two skills. Nils literally flips Bianca around his head like a ragdoll at one point!
