Autumn Jones and Brennar Goree knew that their dance moves were really good. But were they second to none? They had to compete to find out.

For those who don’t know already, shag dancing is a six-count, eight-step dance.

It always involves a partner and is mostly danced to beach music. It was invented in South Carolina in the 1940s, and because of this, it’s also called the Carolina Shag.

Autumn Jones and Brennar Goree are two of the most successful shag dancers in the world today.

In 2018, they were competing to become America’s national shag dance champions. And their performance is not to be missed!

On the day itself, the judges had to assess many couples. But even they were surprised at Goree and Jones’s prowess!

Their routine began with an announcer introducing the couple. She told the crowd a little about the dancers and the song they had picked out, Wine Spo-Dee-O-Dee by Jerry Lee Lewis, to dance to.

The opening piano chords of the song started playing, and the couple held each other in their starting positions.

They moved over the stage, and when the song really kicked in, their feet went wild. The two were able to dance perfectly in tune with the song and each other.

When the lyrics began, the couple span around the stage together, visualizing the peppy, upbeat song perfectly.

The couple kept on spinning, tapping and moving back and forth to the song, showing everyone how to perfectly shag dance.

Even after the music ended, the couple wouldn’t stop shag dancing! The crowd cheered, clearly wanting them to keep going.

The couple finally hugged and walked off, knowing they’d done a perfect job.

The judges were so amazed by the routine that they decided to name Jones and Goree not just the winners of their division but also the overall champions of the National SHAG Dance Championships.

Jones and Goree’s performance soon made its way onto YouTube. In no time at all, it had gained hundreds and thousands of views. It also has 3,500 likes and dozens of comments. People have been saying things like this:

And that performance was no one-off. Jones and Goree have performed in shag dance competitions across the world. Here’s a video of the couple competing in Australia:

Both Jones and Goree have been shag dancing for most of their lives.

Goree was eight years old when his grandmother first taught him the moves, and he’s been dancing ever since!

Jones has been dancing since she was just three years old! But like Goree, she didn’t discover the shag dance until she was eight.

It’s always fun to see two people dance together with enthusiasm. And it certainly helps when the dancers are two amazingly talented people who are at the top of their game.

Most of us can’t hope to ever have Goree and Autumn’s moves, but there’s nothing wrong with watching and wishing that we could!
