Couple finds lost cat and asks the owners for the listed reward – The owners don’t want to pay
We all see the signs in our neighborhoods. When pets go missing, owners want people to know that there is a cash reward for bringing them home safely. But how often do owners actually pay out?
They say that money is the route of all evil. Only some people believe that. But almost everyone can agree that money is the route of most arguments. This story is a perfect example.
When a cat went missing in an American suburb recently, the family was quick to plaster all the lamp posts and telegraph poles with missing notices.
The notices had pictures of the cat along with a listed reward of $500 for returning him home.
A couple saw the notices and decided to keep an eye out for the missing cat. And when they were walking through the neighborhood, they saw what looked like the cat perched on the roof of a car. They approached the cat and saw that it didn’t struggle with being picked up.
They compared the cat with the image on the poster and were convinced that it was the missing animal.
So they called the owners up and walked to the address.
When the couple arrived, the family’s kids ran out with joy, so happy to see their cat again.
Then the parents followed. The mother, with tears in her eyes, thanked the couple.
Next, the family started walking back indoors. That’s when the man of the couple asked the following “Oh, I noticed there was a $500 reward. Would that apply in this situation? If not, I totally understand.”
Then the father of the family looked at the man with daggers, and the wife looked confused. The father then said, “You really want us to give you $500?”
The man responded calmly, saying, “I’m not trying to be awkward or anything, but you did offer a reward, and we did find your cat.”
The father responded with a, “Jesus, hold on,” and walked back inside. He came back out with a wad of money and explained, “All I have is $320 cash on hand. I can get you the rest if it’s really that big of a deal to you.”
The couple accepted the $320 and left it at that. As they were walking away, the mother loudly told the father “I can’t believe he took the money.” The father responded with “Yeah, what a dick.”
The next day, one of the couple asked his work friends if he was in the wrong for asking for the money. His friends were divided on the matter, with half saying that he was right to ask for the reward and half saying that he should not have asked for it.
So the couple took to the internet to ask if they were wrong to ask for the reward money. They added a few extra details, such as the fact that the cat owners lived in an affluent area and had two Mercedes in their driveway.
Most people on the internet have sided with the couple, saying they were right to ask for the money. It’s pretty easy to see why. If the owners had not asked for a reward on the original notice and then the couple had requested one, then it would be a different matter.
At the end of the day, all that the couple did was ask the owners to follow through on their promise. And they even accepted less money than had been promised! How is that wrong?
