Couple turns up heat on Frank Sinatra song

It is always refreshing to see dancers who are dedicated to bringing the old styles of dance back into today’s generation, just like this couple in the video below.

In the said video, we can see two best friends, and they are Sondre and Tanya. They swing danced to Frank Sinatra’s “Fly Me to the Moon” at the Rock That Swing competition back in 2017.

For those who don’t know about ‘swing’…

Swing dance is a collection of movements that developed with the swing style of jazz music in the 1920s–1940s. Swing is a lively dance style wherein partners do turns, lifts, twists, flips, splits, and of course, swinging.

In fact, according to Wikipedia, swing dance…

“…was not commonly used to identify a group of dances until the latter half of the 20th century. Historically, the term “Swing” referred to the style of jazz music, which inspired the evolution of the dance.”

They also added that…

“The term “swing dancing” is often extended to include other dances that do not have certain characteristics of traditional swing dances: West Coast Swing, Carolina Shag, East Coast Swing, Hand Dancing, Jive, Rock and Roll, Modern Jive, and other dances developed during the 1940s and later. A strong tradition of social and competitive boogie woogie and Rock ‘n’ Roll in Europe add these dances to their local swing dance cultures.”

Tanya and Sondre are now ready to swing to the music.

Before the music even starts, the two wink at each other first. It’s most likely their way of telling one another that they are ready to start and put on a show.

Just seconds after, Sondre swings Tanya a couple of times, and then the lady lifts his right leg. It looks like this tandem doesn’t plan on making any mediocre routines. It’s indeed a strong way to start their performance!

Aside from their smooth movements, another thing also captures our attention.

Sondre and Tanya are undeniably talented when it comes to dancing, but there’s another good thing about them – their smiles! They are smiling throughout their performance, it simply shows that they enjoy what they’re doing.

They are also one with the music and neither of them miss a single beat of the relaxing swing rhythm. And when Frank Sinatra says “baby kiss me” in the song, Tanya kisses Sondre on his cheek. Just how sweet is that?

Are you ready for the real swing dance?

Pretty soon after the sweet kiss, Tanya flips over Sondre using the latter’s back, then Sondre pulls her up in between his legs! Oh, that is so smooth, it doesn’t even sweat them to execute the routine.

They turn and jump at the same time after that fast sequence like it’s nothing. For the record, they are able to pull that slick move off without missing a single step. Are they even humans?

They are also mouthing the words of the song and anyone can tell that they both put their hearts in this performance. We can only imagine the amount of time and energy that they had to spend just to make their dance this good.

They continue to swing with lots of twists and spinning. They execute their transitions with so much precision and on-point timing.

They also separate at one point to do some jigs, and at the end of their performance, for the last three beats, Tanya pops her chest, and it looks like Sondre is doing it, that is how in sync this pairing is.
