Stranger speaks out when she hears couple making fun of a struggling foster mom in Walmart
More and more often, people seem to think that they can say whatever rude thing pops into their heads without thinking about how it might affect others (and make them look like jerks).
And while Walmart might be notorious for clientele the draws critique, there’s no excusing what one classless couple said to a struggling foster mom while waiting in line with her at the store.
Quick to judge
When the couple saw a woman with five kids they had the gall to say out loud: “How many baby daddies do you think she has?”
Pretty disgusting behavior, right?
It doesn’t matter that people were stressed and the lines were long, there’s just no excuse for that comment. And not only did it affect the struggling mom but a woman waiting in line between them as well.

Lindsay Rae couldn’t believe what she was hearing when the couple blurted out their tactless statement. Where the rude couple saw a white woman with children of differing skin color, Lindsay realized what was actually going on because she’s also a foster mom.
Making matters worse
The Walmart shoppers weren’t done with their commentary though. They said, “Just wait until she whips out the food stamps.”
And, yes, she did have a food stamp card. One that she struggled with because she wasn’t quite sure how it worked yet.
That only elicited more comments from the couple, this time about their taxes being “wasted” on the kids.
Intervening with class
Lindsay decided to help the woman out, asking if she could help. The mom smiled and Linsday asked the key question: “Foster or adopted?”
The woman answered “New foster mom. This is my first time using one of these. They came three days ago. Gonna be with us for a while.”
The new foster mom explained that the stipend for their care had not yet come through yet as Lindsay helped her use the food stamp card and explained to her how to make it easier next time.

The two women hugged and the mom and her kids walked out of the store.
Setting the record straight
Once the woman was out of earshot, Lindsay turned around to the couple and gave them a piece of her mind.
First, she explained that the kids were not the woman’s biological children but had come to her through the foster system days earlier. Then she told them just how out of line their behavior was.
She recalled her words in a now-viral Facebook post:
“Those children? They lost the right to live with their parents just days ago, those clothes? probably the only clothes they own, or got to leave their home with.
THAT woman? Opened her home to kids, kids that needed a safe place to go, when the one they lived in no longer proved safe enough or secure enough for them. The food stamps, something health and welfare helps an already mother to two feed three new mouths.
There are not nearly enough women or people like her this world.”
Luckily, Lindsay is one of those people.
She also explained that if those kids had been hers, there was nothing wrong with using food stamps to help feed children in need since “no child in this country or any other deserves to be cold or hungry.”
And like the cowards they are, the couple silently backed up and got into another line.
