Devoted couple moves family and 46 rescue dogs to 4-acre doggy paradise

There are some people in life that give up everything of themselves just to help others. Sometimes itâs to help other people, but sometimes itâs to help the truly helpless; animals. People with hearts such as these wonât think twice about making a sacrifice or two if it means they can rescue the animals theyâre trying to help.
One of the best examples of these types of people is a couple named Mark and Sharon Starmer, who completely uprooted their lives in the hopes of giving their 46 rescue dogs a better one.

Roughly 15 years ago now, back in 2004, the couple welcomed their first rescue dog into the family.
The Starmers LOVED the rewarding feeling of providing for their rescue, and so within a small amount of time, they continued to grow their fur family to an unimaginable 46 dogs! Well, technically they actually grew it to 45 rescue dogs plus one stunning gray wolf.
The family was happy in their little Alberta haven. At least, that is until the providenceâs authorities gave them an unsettling ultimatum; to rid themselves of their beloved rescue dogs, or pack it up themselves and join them.

Knowing that giving up their precious rescue dogs wasnât an option for them, the couple decided to uproot their entire lives and start searching for a place where they were welcome. All 48 of them.
They say that ânecessity breeds innovationâ, and the coupleâs next move is proof of that! When they got to thinking about all their rescues and how they deserved a good life, the couple had a brilliant idea. They would create a legitimate animal sanctuary so they could care not only for the animals they had but so they could also continue in their rescue efforts.

The couple began their search for the perfect property and were blessed enough to find it!
The property was located in British Columbia, Canada, and it was 4 acres of pure puppy paradise! The couple purchased the property and got to work building an enormous enclosure where all now-68 of their rescue dogs can roam wild and free. Nestled in the gorgeous countryside in a clearing amidst swaths of forest, these dogs couldnât be any happier in their new home.

It turns out that the couple doesnât just do what they do because they like it; they were called to it.
They realized it was their calling 17 years ago in 2002 when Mark realized he had a special ability; he could communicate with angels. Even better, he learned that not all angels take human form. The couple believes that dogs are also angelic avatars, and the dogs they rescue are guided to them as such.
His beliefs inspired him to write his famous book, Some Dogs Are Angels, and ultimately is how he came to open his and Sharonâs animal sanctuary under the same name.

Mark isnât the only one with an ability, though. His wife, Sharon, is also whatâs known as an energy healer, and both of them feel called to help these angel dogs. Together, they scour North America using their abilities to find the dogs they rescue and help put them on the path theyâre meant to be on.

To learn more about how they came to discover that some dogs, indeed, are angels, you can visit them at their website, Angels in Canada, Some Dogs Are Angels, and you can also see some amazing photos of their angelic rescues on their Instagram page.
One thing is certain, Mark and Sharon have both been angels and a blessing to all of the amazing dogs that come into their care. To see them happily roaming free in their doggy-paradise, watch the video clip below.
