‘Sound of Silence’ is a classic hit from the famous folk-rock duo Simon & Garfunkel.

This song had so much history before it became a hit, even failing its initial launch only to hit the charts a couple of years after.

Paul Simon wrote the song in 1964 and recorded it with Art Garfunkel for their debut album.

However, despite its magnificent lyricism, it failed to make a fair number of sales.

The duo decided to split and continued with their individual goals. But just as they turned their backs on the song, producer Tom Wilson believed they could turn things around.

He added some electric guitars and drums to its original arrangement, republished the song, and the rest was history.

This song soon became a favorite among performers worldwide.

Many artists covered this song because of its beautiful melody and striking lyrics, including Gregorian (a German, Gregorian-chant-inspired band) and Anna Kendrick in the animated movie Trolls.

When you do a cover of this song, and you give it justice, it will surely go viral.

These young artists from Australia gained 11 million views because of their version of the song.

Australian singer-songwriters Emma Louise and Husky Gawenda came together for this duet to close the episode of the Australian TV show, RocKwiz.

Emma’s tone and vocal range matched perfectly with Husky’s indie-folk musicality.

The result? A cover that’s so mesmerizing to listen to.

Emma and Husky’s rendition stayed true to the original arrangement.

They did not divert from Simon and Garfunkel’s original song version.

No fancy rifts and runs to show off their vocal range, but only a beautiful harmonization of their voices.

Husky played the guitar perfectly, and his second voice to Emma’s vocals came together beautifully.

No wonder this reached millions of views! And YouTube fans loved it.

“I have to say…. A song sung by two artists has never moved me so much in my life. Her rich, warm, velvet tone, and his not overplayed, higher octave…. This IS MUSIC.”

“[I] am so glad that these [two] young people extremely do justice to the song with their soulful rendition. The beautiful, talented young girl [sang] from the depths of her soul and harmonized nicely by the equally talented young man. Best version so far.”

The song’s deep meaning resonated with most people, and that’s why this song is still relevant today.

It is a hymn to the resistance, and Paul Simon’s writing put a lot of symbolism to what people were going through at that time, and as Art Garfunkel said in a live performance, “a song about the inability of people to communicate with each other.”

It’s not only about the lack of communication per se but how conversations have become shallow and meaningless.

They pointed out how the people felt their existence was insignificant, alienated, and powerless.

That was the 1960s, but doesn’t it resonate with the present day, too?
