Couple says they’re still “deeply in love” after 91 years together and 64 grandchildren
Falling in love is easy.
What’s hard is maintaining that love and keeping it burning.
This is the story of a couple who’s married for 91 years and are still in love with each other.
Married for so long that they are blessed with such a huge family with more than 70 members, from their children to their great-grandchildren.
Zechariah and Shama’a had a rough start.
They were both orphaned and were married at an extremely young age as part of the practice in Yemen and to keep them within the Jewish Community.
Zechariah was 12 and Shama’a was 10 back then.
Life was hard for them as they venture into married life at a such young age.
Shama’a shared their struggles and hardships through an interview with a news agency.
They didn’t sip from silver spoons.
She said in their local dialect, “We didn’t ‘lick honey’ in life. We suffered.”
They both took the rough roads and got through them.
Even when they were on their own.
They just kept going, together.
At the early stage of their marriage, they had no house and would only clean a donkey’s barn and called it home.
In 1948, they fled.
They fled poverty and persecution in Yemen and moved to the newly established state of Israel.
There, they also established their new life and a new path for a better future.
Then their marriage started to flourish.
Especially as they became parents of 11 children. And from their children sprang up 64 grand and great-grandchildren.
Zechariah told the press he could no longer remember how many there are as there are too many.
Such a precious gift any grandparent would love to have.
Zechariah now has a lot of time to think about what makes a long-lasting, happy marriage.
“What’s the secret? God had sent her to me. I was lucky to win her,” he explained in their local tongue.
Zechariah also said that there were women who flocked to him like a herd of sheep but he only chose Shama’a.
A match made in heaven.
They’re still fond of being together.
Each adores the other’s companionship.
Shama’a said, “Together for many years, without fighting, happy to spend our lives together.”
Zechariah added that God has protected them all the way and that they would die together if He would let them.
The video has been admired by many and some shared their thoughts in the comments.
One user said, “What a lovely heart-warming story and such a large family as their legacy. I chuckled at the ‘and I never threw her out’ quip!”
When love is true and pure, no one can stop a couple to conquer all the challenges life can throw at them.
Shama’a and Zechariah’s story is the epitome of one of the best marriages in the world.
One can say that they were meant for each other and that their bond with one another is unbreakable.
Through thick and thin, they are together, forever.
