Couple buys abandoned 18th-century church – turns it into their cozy and welcoming home
Homes come in all shapes and sizes, from tiny studio apartments to grand mansions. Even the simplest of spaces can feel like a wonderful home if you put some love and effort into making it special, but we’re about to show you a truly unique home, quite unlike anything else in the world.
Over in the small community of Kyloe in Northumberland, England, sits an 18th-century church: the Church of St Nicholas.
If you happened to be passing by the area, you might think that the church is still an active religious building, but it’s actually been transformed into a private, beautiful home.
The church was left abandoned in the 1980s and stayed that way for a couple of decades before a couple decided to buy it up and turn it into their very own home.
Living in a church might sound strange to some, but it certainly has its advantages. Just take a look at the dining room to see what we’re talking about.
The whole house, which features five bedrooms, two bathrooms, two living rooms, and a pair of kitchens too, is filled with unique original features like gorgeous stained glass windows and high ceilings.
This is the main living area, where some of the original decorative elements from the church have been left intact, while cozy sofas and plants help to make the place feel more like a regular family home.
This incredible kitchen looks like the perfect fit for any aspiring chef.
It’s got all you need to make tasty meals, as well as some gorgeous windows to admire while you work.
This lovely staircase leads up to the second floor, as well as a small library area.
We can also see some biblical verses written on the walls, which have been left intact. The homeowners tried to keep as many of the original features as possible in order to respect the history of the church.
And how about the bedrooms? Well, here’s one of them!
Imagine stepping into that room whenever you feel a little sleepy, looking up to the towering ceilings above, admiring the beautiful windows all around you, and falling into a big, comfortable bed. It must be quite an experience for the people who live there.
Naturally, the bathrooms are equally beautiful.
We have to admire the work done by the homeowners. Don’t forget, they started off with a simple abandoned church and had to work with designers and developers to plan the whole layout, building the different rooms, positioning them just right to take advantage of the church’s features, and decorating them all to a stunning standard too.
Here’s another bedroom with a super skylight.
This cozy space is large enough for a king-sized bed and features handmade furniture too.
What an amazing piece of real estate!
What do you think about this extraordinary home? Could you imagine yourself living in a church, enjoying super high ceilings and stained glass windows each day?
