What makes them the same is all of them are precious. Whether it’s a normal birth or a cesarean section, it’s surely a heartwarming moment for the baby’s parents.

This is what Philip and Rachel Ridgeway must have felt when they welcomed their newborn twins.

It was October 31, 2022, when they received their life-changing gifts, their twin babies, Lydia and Timothy.

Their story is not what you will typically hear.

It’s because Lydia and Timothy were born from 30-year-old embryos. Yup, you read that right.

Back on April 2, 1992. the embryos were donated to the National Embryo Donation Center and was frozen since then.

A little back story about these precious embryos.

They were kept in a private lab first and back in 2007, the couple who created them donated them with the intention to help other couples.

Some people might find the word “donation” a little confusing in this situation.

And here’s an explanation. These embryos were from a couple who underwent in Vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment.

And since they were unused, they were donated and put through a preservation process called “embryo freezing” or “cryopreservation.”

Embryo Adoption

Thanks to technology for making this possible. Without it, Philip and Rachel would not have met Lydia and Timothy.

They also deserve it as they give their children pure love and care.

In fact, even though Rachel and Philip already had four children at that time, they still chose to adopt these embryos that had been kept for 30 years.

Was it worth it for the couple?

Definitely, yes! Rachel even told TODAY, that it was a “tremendous blessing.”

Although the embryos were old, it’s amazing how Rachel and Philip gave them a chance.

And they are indeed blessed as they were gifted with another two adorable little ones.

Rachel’s pregnancy is surely unique and non-traditional.

Therefore, they really needed to let their children understand it deeply. And this is what they did. They explained everything to them and they ended up being excited. How adorable!

Philip and Rachel are grateful.

What’s amazing about this two is they didn’t focus on how old the embryos were. They were more after the precious lives of the babies.

“It’s just mind-blowing to think that, at that same point in time, somewhere else, God was giving life to these children,” Philip stated.

Although the embryos were preserved for many years, it’s heartwarming to know that they were able to meet amazing parents.

That’s why Rachel believes that it was meant for them.

Back in 1992, she and Philip were just kids. Who would have thought that they would become the parents of these embryos?

Now, they’ve been showering the twins with so much love and care alongside their older siblings.

Babies are indeed blessings.

Those parents who are given the chance to have babies are definitely blessed.

And this story is another inspiration for those who also hope to have a baby in the future. It shows that nothing is impossible, especially now that technology is very rampant.

If these 30-year-old embryos had a chance to live, having a baby is always possible for those who hope to have one.
