Cousins fled during Holocaust believing the other didn't survive reunite 75 years later
This narrative will demonstrate once more how we may make use of social media’s impact and power for good. Having a family is one of the most essential things in life, yet we may often take them for granted since we know they will always be there.
You will be inspired to cherish your relationships and the time you spend with your loved ones after reading this story.
It’s a story like no other.
Morris Sana, 87, and Simon Mairowitz, 85, are cousins who were childhood friends in Romania before World War II tore their families apart.
They assumed that the other had perished in the war for 75 years.
They never thought they’d meet each other again.
But after Simon took a plane from the UK to Israel, where Morris now resides, they were finally able to reunite. Online connections among their family allowed them to discover that both of their grandfathers were still living.
Morris can be seen entering a hotel room and beaming as he sees his cousin waiting for him in a video that Leetal Ofer, his granddaughter, published. The two long-lost buddies then hugged one another while crying, and the heartwarming reunion made everyone in the room tear up.
It was the reunion of a lifetime.
“Good to see you after all these years,” Simon cried “Seventy-five years, you waited.”
In 1940, just before the start of the war, was the last time they saw each other in Romania. Although both of their families made it out alive, they were unsure of each other’s fate.
They had no idea.
Since they had no means of knowing the truth, they each guessed that the other had been killed at a concentration camp somewhere in Europe. After that, the men believed they wouldn’t ever cross paths again.
When they split up during the war, they had no idea that the other had survived and started a new life on the other side of the globe. That is until Morris’ daughter started using Facebook to get in touch with her long-lost cousins and learned that his father’s cousin was still alive.
This made the reunion even more special.
“It’s a long time, but we’ve got each other now,” Simon remarked,
Before the video came to a close, the two sat down and possibly had the longest conversation, updating one another on their lives over the previous 75 years. Both families are hopeful that they will be able to communicate going forward and get together as frequently as possible.
Even though they were apart at a horrible time, it is consoling to know that something good could have come of it.
After going through so much, the two brave survivors are now in each others’ lives once again. Nothing else could be as sweet and as heartwarming. We hope that they live long, healthy lives to make up for the lost time.
