Crane operator hilariously annoys sunbather by casting a shadow

Besides the countless lives lost, perhaps the most problematic result of the coronavirus pandemic is humanity’s collective boredom. People simply don’t know how to keep themselves entertained during the age of lockdowns, quarantines, and stay-at-home orders.

Fortunately (or maybe unfortunately), some have found new, “innovative” ways to keep life interesting.

Recently, a crane operator decides to rain on one particular man’s sunny day.

The video starts with an innocent man sunbathing in the middle of what appears to be a business park. A crane’s shadow positions itself right across the sunbather’s exposed body.

He sits up, noticing something’s amiss.

Our innocent sunbather looks around to see what’s up (pun intended). He notices the crane’s shadow right across his tanning spot.

Perhaps a change of location’s in order.

The shaded sunbather picks up his salmon-colored towel and moves it out of the crane’s shadow.

The crane operator, who’s completely audible throughout the video, sparks up a conversation on his walkie-talkie,

“He’s moving. He’s moving, he’s moving. Look, he’s moving… I’m videoing it mate, I’m videoing it.”

The operator lets out a hearty, maniacal laugh.

The sunbather takes a seat in his new location, inspecting the lay of the land for a few moments.

All seems to be right in the world, again (except for everything else that’s wrong in the world).

The sunbather lies down yet again, getting some much-needed sun and vitamin D.

Nothing but sunshine.

The crane operator has different plans, however. Like an advanced troll, he proceeds to inch the crane closer and closer towards the sunbather’s new, un-obfuscated location.

The crane’s shadow proceeds to cover the sunbather’s face.

Honestly, if that was me sunbathing, I’d find it funny at first and then probably get a little annoyed and leave. Ain’t nobody got time for that nonsense. Trolling’s only fun for so long before becoming a bother, especially when it’s at your expense.

Twitter user LittleMrMillwal originally posted the 2-minute video on May 19th. Since then, it’s seen over 2 millions views and countless responses, sparking somewhat of a controversy.

The Twitter responses are rather divisive. Some viewers seem rather entertained:

“I liked how the operator waited until they’d got comfy then inched the shadow rather than rushed it.

My only criticism, the operator should have lowered the mechanism on the cable a little so as to block the shade to below his face so he didn’t notice.”

Twitter user Elliot Eastwick states the following,

“Absolutely 100% can get behind this level of commitment to pettiness.”

User Matthew “Did you see the bubble?” LoPresti hilariously adds,

“In my mind I imagine these two get together afterwards, have a pint and become best of friends. Fast forward 50 years and their relationship is on a whole other level, transcending the very idea of love.”

Conversely, other users stick up for the sunbather,

“Crane operator is clearly a complete arsehole. Why do people like this kind of behaviour?”

Some found absolutely no humor in the trolling,

“All who think this is funny. Grow up.”

I’ll admit that the entire ordeal is unique trolling – but trolling can get really old, really fast. After the first couple times, the fun’s been had, proceeded by annoyance. I can understand why the sunbather would be angry.

Some have pointed out that at the very end of the video you can see the sunbather move his right arm forward before the footage cuts out. Some speculate that this is an attempt to flip the crane operator off. Perhaps the operator deserves it? You be the judge.

What are your thoughts on the situation? A fun prank or needless nuisance?
