“Every day stuff is being knocked over, things are broken, they just love playing,” Gentry Sanders told The Dodo.
Woman uses old boxes to build amazing mid-century house for her cats
What won’t we do for our pets? For people who own and love their pets, we will go to extreme lengths to love them as best as we can. Sometimes, we can most definitely be a bit “extra” with our love. Honestly, who cares! As long as we are doing our best to love our animals, it doesn’t really matter how extra we might be.
This woman went the extra mile for her pets.
Huckleberry and Floyd are two cats who love to play. They are best friends who love to spend time with one another, especially when they both want to nap! The rambunctious duo is always getting into trouble. They are constantly causing a ruckus around the house, all while having a blast!
Even with their extensive toy collection, they just can’t seem to help it.
Like most animals (and sometimes babies), the toy itself can be less interesting than the container it came in! For some reason, babies and pets love to play with boxes, wrappings, and anything that ISN’T the toy they got!
Floyd and Huckleberry are no different. They love to play with the boxes that sometimes show up with packages.
Being a good mom, Gentry gives them the box whenever she has the ability to. It is a good way to keep them occupied so they don’t terrorize the house and break things!
After seeing her feline duo playing with a box, Sanders decided to use her graphic design skills to create something special.
Getting together the supplies and the inspiration from the cats themselves, she decided that she was going to build them their own cardboard house!
“I figured I could just use the boxes to make something cute since they were always sitting out in my house,” Sanders said. “I love mid-century style and figured, ‘Why not a mid-century house?’”
With the experience to make the dream a reality, she got to work.
Even though the project was a solo endeavor, the cats just couldn’t;t help themselves! They wanted to be a part of the construction, even if that meant just watching.
“I can’t do anything in my house without them being involved in it,” Sanders said. “They loved the cutting of the cardboard because they got to lay on it and chew it. Surprisingly, they left me alone when I painted but I purposefully planned that during their afternoon nap time.”
Spending the weekend putting it together, under the cats’ watchful eye, she finally finished.
Thing 1 and Thing 2 loved it! They jumped all over it, even hiding their prized possessions within its secure walls. Even as the days continue, Sanders reports that their excitement hasn’t worn off and they are still pleased with their new home-within-a-home.
The duo even has its own routines when it comes to the house.
With their own personality showing through, they each use the house in their own way.
“Huck sleeps in it all the time while I am working,” Sanders said. “Floyd either sleeps in it or works on tearing apart his catnip toys. I am honestly surprised how much they love it.”
More than just a cool story, she detailed the project in her blog!
