Dad rounded up 100 friends to do drive-by birthday party for his daughter who had no idea

Some dads go the extra mile for their kids. From helping to build treehouses that get used once, to physically exhausting yourself teaching their kids how to ride a bike, dad’s often are the catalysts that push kids forward. Amid the shelter-in-place orders across the country, this dad found a creative solution to the “social distancing” aspect for his daughter’s birthday.

Going the extra mile is exactly what this dad did!

Meet Jim Borga, a Charlotte, North Carolina native who, like everyone else, is chafing a bit under the shelter-in-place order. Obviously, the orders are for good reason but that doesn’t make them any easier! Jim is locally known in the neighborhood for throwing extravagant parties. He loves to have a good time and have friends over.

It is difficult to have traditional parties when you can’t gather together!

Jim came across a dilemma when he wanted to throw his daughter a huge birthday party but wasn’t able to have people over to the house. Angel, his daughter, was turning eight and he wanted to make it a memorable day for her. He didn’t want the virus to be the center of her birthday so he devised a plan.

Contacting some friends in the area, Jim put together a small plan that quickly escalated into something he would never have guessed possible.

What started out as a few phone calls soon became a public event! His goal was to have a birthday caravan that would drive by the house and throw their gifts into the yard while Angel dressed up and waved to the cars as they passed and said happy birthday. The biggest part? It was all going to be a surprise.

As Jim got calling, the list began to grow…and didn’t stop.

Soon, the small caravan of friends had grown into a full-blown event! There over 75 confirmed cars, five or six marked cop cars, a firetruck, an entire tow truck fleet with six or seven tow trucks, mopeds, motorcycles, and a clown!

More than just a caravan, there was a massive cake with decorations!

Since everyone couldn’t come inside for the party, how could everyone have a slice of cake? The solution: a huge, handmade, cardboard cake would decorate the road as people drove by. Getting his sons together, Jim began work on the cardboard cake. At completion, it was over twenty feet long and sixteen feet high!

After all the preparation, the day had finally arrived.

To keep the surprise, Angel was taken out for a shopping spree so they could get the house ready. The meeting place was a local church that had a parking lot large enough for the entire caravan to wait. People gathered and waiting for the go-ahead.

When the whistle blew, the entire party rolled out.

The parade was so long that it took almost twenty minutes for everyone to pass the house and throw out their birthday gifts for Angel! The entire event was a massive success!

Surprised and happy, Angel had one of her best birthdays ever.

From the smile on her face and the gifts she was being given, you could tell that little Angel was having a great birthday party. It seems that a dad can make anything happen, all you need is a little creativity and some love for your family.
