A self-taught baker creates loaves of bread that look like gorgeous masterpieces

All of this time on our hands has people baking all sorts of goodies. The sourdough craze is real and people everywhere have been making their very own homemade bread. It’s so good you can smell it through the screen! A self-taught baker named Hannah Page from North Carolina has been making sourdough and other breaded treats long before the trend had started.

Page has been perfecting her craft in all sorts of ways and it’s sure to have you drooling.

Page works as a history teacher full-time in Raleigh, North Carolina, and keeps baking as her relaxing hobby. Her Instagram page Blondie+Rye is a perfect outlet for Page to share her works of edible art and it’s absolutely astonishing what she can do!

Page began her breaded journey when someone gifted her a dutch oven as a wedding present.

The dutch oven came with a no-knead bread recipe by Jim Lahey who is the owner of the phenomenal Sullivan Street Bakery in New York City. That simple recipe was before she’d ever dabbled in bread baking.

It inspired her to make her own sourdough bread starter also known as levain which is the fermentation process of yeast and helps the sourdough bread rise.

Page was moved by the true power of baking bread as she told Insider,

“You can be into baking bread, but once you actually make your own starter that you create from scratch and use over and over for the rest of your life, that’s when it hits”

Page continued to explain to Insider the true depths of sourdough bread making, saying,

“Because you’re creating this out of nothing, it becomes part of every loaf you make. My starter has microbes that no one else’s does. There’s people who have starters from the mid-19th century. It’s crazy to think that you could keep passing it down and giving it to people.”

Over the years Page has created more and more innovative ways to score her sourdough creations which is when you slice designs into the dough before baking.

Pages bread could easily be put into a museum with how astonishing it is. Although Page’s breaded masterpieces look extremely complex she has admitted her technique is more jazz than anything. She just goes with the flow of what she thinks might be incredible when taken out of the oven. You could say Page is truly a natural with her impressive abilities.

Page isn’t one to write down every recipe either, she just uses what she has and goes from there.
