Crime-fighting K9 tough as nails turns to absolute mush around baby sister

Whether human or canine, working on a police force can make someone a hardened and tough individual. Being faced with danger is a constant requirement of the job.

Under that toughened exterior, however, there is often a true sweetheart.

That’s especially when the officer in question is a German shepherd.

Sonny is a hardened police dog.

His human father Jason is a police officer and spends his working days alongside Sonny. They have developed quite a bond through the years.

Jason says that Sonny is very perceptive and caring. The German shepherd notices when Jason is in a bad mood.

“It’s nice to have a partner that never talks back to you,” Jason says in a video by the Dodo. “There have been times I’m just venting and I know he’s listening.”

“I know he can understand when I’m upset or when I’m happy. He can read those emotions off of me.”

Sonny is a great partner.

“When I go back to the cruiser, he’s always there,” Jason continued. “He lets me know he understands.”

When it’s time to go to work and be a police officer, Sonny is all business.

“When I get dressed for work and Sonny sees me come out in the uniform, he goes straight into cop mode. He hops in the car and he’s all business.”

“He’s always worked up, pacing n the back of the car. Then we come home from work and he turns that switch off. It’s family time.”

Sonny is different during “family time.”

Just like Sonny will flip on a switch and get into “cop mode”, he turns it off when they get home and it’s time for some pleasant “family time.”

“He has these interactions with my daughter, where he can literally just relax and lay on the ground, things he doesn’t normally do in a police car, and she crawls all over him. She can grab his toes, his paws, his ears, and do whatever and he takes it like a champ.”

Sonny prefers to spend time with his baby sister.

Jason says that Sonny is a very independent dog who has space where he can be left alone. Sonny prefers to spend time with his baby sister, however.

“Sonny is very independent. He has his space where he can go and be left alone and I don’t bother him.”

“Now, he chooses to always be right next to her.”

It’s always a happy experience.

Sonny and his baby sister get along great and always seem to have a fun time filled with laughter.

“Every time they interact, there’s giggling going on,” Jason continued. “And it’s always happy. It’s always optimistic.”

It’s a good thing that Sonny gets along so well with kids because he’s going to have another baby sister soon as well.

“Now we’re expecting another baby girl,” Jason continued. “And I can’t wait, cause we’re gonna have two girls and he’s gonna have his hands full.”

The bond between Sonny and his sister runs deep. They are siblings and best friends. It’s a loving family.

“Sonny is her big brother and her best friend. Clearly, he loves her so much because he just lets her do whatever.”
