Dad and baby Rascal Flatts sing-a-long is going viral because it’s just too darn cute for words

“He’s going to kill me for posting this” is a sure sign that you both agreed it would be posted because it was adorable, but that that doesn’t make us any less charmed by this baby-daddy singing duo rocking out to Rascal Flatts – and posted “surreptitiously” by mom.

It turns out that we don’t just sing to babies because it allows us to perpetuate some of the most annoying songs on earth (Baby Shark, anyone?) but because they actually like it. They’re downright soothed by it, even when we’re relatively terrible singers.

Finally, someone will appreciate your karaoke skills!

Babies not only enjoy your bad covers, but even feel more bonded to us when we sing to them. They even attempt to emulate us from time to time.

While many people credit the high-pitched squeaky noises as being what babies love the most, we really want to give them more credit than that.

In 2015, McGill University researchers posited that six-month-old infants enjoyed listening to “a repeating vowel sound that mimicked those made by an adult woman or those by a baby.” Ok, so that’s “higher”-pitched than men, but we think it’s all about the repetitive vowels.

So they don’t want to listen to James Earl Jones do a monologue (yet), but repetitive melodies and musical patterns? They’re all in. Doubly so if they can listen to other babies or their moms do it.

We’re going to skip baby karaoke night though.

When Danielle Johnson Jones posted a video of her husband Ryan and baby daughter Mary on Facebook about a year ago, it proved that we all, in fact, still love repeating vowel sounds – and cute babies.

Dads looking into their children’s eyes with great love and affection helps too.

You don’t need to like Rascal Flatts – or even babies for that matter – to find this video is heartwarming. It’s just that sweet.

It turns out dad loves to sing to little Mary and in this video, he chose “I’m Moving On” by Rascal Flatts. Let’s just be glad that babies don’t appreciate lyrics yet because this song can be kind of dark.

Nevertheless, the baby is mesmerized by daddy’s singing and eye contact as he holds her up and even encourages her own vocal accompaniment. Not only does this sweet girl enjoy the music but she even looks like she’s trying to mimic her dad!

Viewed by over 13 million people since it was posted, the video has certainly struck a chord with viewers who are equally mesmerized by father and child.

The squirming, the attempts to sing – all the sweetness is packed into this minute-and-a-half video.

Is it just us or is this little one going to have a first phrase before she has a first word – “I’m movin’ on”?

We like to hope they get to be teenagers before they give us that response, but oh well.

Be sure to scroll down below to take a look – and make sure you watch this little girl :16 seconds in as she belts out her part of the duo for the first time.
