Just like their human owners, dogs can develop problems with their eyes.

So, when a pit bull named Gremlin started to lose her sight due to cataracts, she became sad and depressed rather quickly. Fortunately, her owners loved her so much that they took her to get her vision corrected.

Cataracts in dogs

Cataracts happen for a variety of reasons. In dogs, it’s due to a change in the water balance or proteins within the lens.

As cataracts get worse, the dog affected slowly loses their ability to see. The clearest evidence of the development of cataracts in dogs is a gradual whitening of the eye.

A surgery goes wrong

Gremlin was taken to the vet to get treated for her cataracts, but a problem with the procedure caused an unexpected setback.

As a result, Gremlin was blinded in one eye and was unable to see very well with the other.

Gremlin was miserable

Due to damage to her optic nerves, Gremlin was unable to get corrective surgery.

Gremlin was left to blindly wander around her home, bumping into walls and other items.

To say that she was a shadow of her former self was an understatement.

Soon, Gremlin withdrew from the world around her, no longer interacting with her doggie siblings. Things got so bad that she would get startled by the slightest sound.

Gremlin started sitting in the corner all by herself at this point.

Gremlin’s owners decided to take action

Unable to take it anymore, her owners decided to do something about her condition.

Talking to a vet that specialized in risky lens transplants, Gremlin’s humans considered their options.

Making a tough decision

They didn’t want her to have to undergo another surgery, considering what had happened before.

Then they had an ingenious idea.

Going to an extraordinary length, the couple decided to order some high-powered human contacts for poor Gremlin.

They figured that they had nothing to lose at that point. Plus, they felt it was a safer option than having her undergo another risky surgery.

But would the contacts work?

Unsure of what would happen, Gremlin’s parents put the human lenses in. And it worked, Gremlin could see again!

A happy dog once again

Soon, she was back to her old self, walking around her home and interacting with everyone once again.

Best of all, she was able to see the owners who love her so much.
