Dogs are pretty protective when it comes to anyone in their pack, including the families that adopt them. Some dogs, such as German shepherds, make great guard dogs and can keep family members, especially children, from harm.

This is demonstrated brilliantly in a video about a father testing the family German shepherd when it came to protecting his daughter.

All seems calm in the video at first

In the video, the dad looks into a vehicle where his daughter is sitting in the front seat. The German shepherd, named Kujo, is sitting quietly in the back seat.

Stranger danger

The father has been training Kujo to protect his daughter and wanted to film the results of Kujo’s training.

As he stands there, the dad starts to talk to the daughter like he is a stranger.

The father points the camera to the back of the vehicle where Kujo sits. The loyal German shepherd is calmly looking out the back window, but he is ready to spring into action if needed.

The father is testing his daughter as well as Kujo

First, the dad, acting like a stranger, asks if he can come into the vehicle with her, but the little girl smartly tells him that she isn’t allowed to be with a stranger. When she asks him what his dad’s name is, he is unable to answer correctly.

Kujo quickly springs into action

As soon as her dad reaches into the vehicle and asks the little girl to come with him, Kujo springs into action. Before you know it, he has grabbed onto the arm, protected by a padded covering, of course, with his jaws, and won’t let go.

An unrelenting defense of his charge

As the dad backs up, Kujo follows him out through the window of the vehicle, still attached to the dad’s arm. Kujo shows his loyalty, refusing to let go of the dad’s arm.

Kujo performs his training admirably

Finally, satisfied, the father asks his daughter to call Kujo off.

The girl calls out Kujo’s name, which is a signal for him to let go.

Calling Kujo over, she tells him to jump back into the vehicle through the window. He obeys and is soon by her side again, ready to spring into action if needed.

Kujo is a perfect example of how dogs are very loyal to their family members. In many cases, dog breeds, like the German shepherd, are trained to protect the family and home. In some cases, such as when a strong bond is present, dogs don’t even need to be trained to provide protection.
