Dad tosses ribs in the slow cooker then tops it with Coke for an easy and delicious family favorite

Being stuck at home during quarantine can be a bit dull for some especially those who are not used to spending the whole day at home.

Many of us probably miss the busy world outside the corners of our abode. We miss visiting the places we used to see every day, our favorite spots, our friends, and most of all, the food that we love to buy in fast food chains or restaurants.

In short, our current situation intensifies our food cravings.

I just want you to know that I feel you. Even so, I think it’s time to be more resourceful and inventive. You might want to create new recipes without using difficult-to-find ingredients.

Just like this dad who cooked a mouthwatering meal but did not use fancy ingredients.

Thankfully, Rusty Pierce gladly shared the entire process of how he came up with his delish recipe on YouTube channel namely Burning Cereal. His video has proven that he wants to keep things simple.

“Simple and easy cooking tips and recipes for the working class person. No fancy ingredients, no frills, just good food, thats easy to make. Every week we will utilize ingredients you may already have in your kitchen. Nothing too difficult. It’s easier than Burning Cereal. Have fun and enjoy.”

He cooked barbecue pork ribs – though it is super easy to make, it looks special.

Imagine, it only took him a few minutes to prepare the main dish and he just needed to leave it in a slow cooker for 6 hours.

After that, he came up with a delicious dish that everyone will love!

So here are the ingredients needed to achieve this looking-good and juicy barbecue pork ribs!

Ingredients:

  • 3 lbs pork ribs
  • BBQ sauce
  • 2 liters of Coke

For the dry rub:

  • 2 cups brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon onion powder
  • 1 tablespoon black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon garlic powder
  • 1 tablespoon paprika
  • 1 tablespoon cayenne pepper

I know you’re also curious as to why he needs to use Coke in this dish. Well as Rusty explained, he said that it would make the pork tastes great and the phosphoric acid that it contains will also help tenderize the meat.

So let’s find out how he did it and take notes of these steps:

Step 1:

Combine all the powdered spices including the salt, pepper, cayenne, garlic and onion powder, paprika, and brown sugar into a bowl. Then, stir it using a whisk but if a whisk is not available in your kitchen, a fork will certainly do.

Patience is what you need in this step because of the brown sugar. It tends to clump so you have to mix it really well to come up with a perfect dry rub without any lumps left.

Step 2:

In this step, you will need to wear a pair of gloves because you’ll need to give the ribs some rub.

Massage the spices into the pork ribs and make sure that it will be coated with the spices rigorously.

Step 3:

So we’re now in the much-awaited part. Get a slow cooker and put those coated ribs. Pour the entire 2-liter bottle of Coca-Cola into the crockpot. And wait, just a reminder in putting that sweetened soft drink, you have to be careful and avoid pouring it directly onto the ribs.

You can use other soda brands like Pepsi – you decide.

Tip from Rusty: You may add more sugar into the crockpot if you want it a bit sweeter. And there you go, just leave it into the slow cooker and cook for 6 hours. Remember not to open the lid for at least 1.5 hours.

Step 4:

When it’s cooked, transfer it to a baking sheet and you can start putting BBQ sauce on it. Then broil for 5 to 10 minutes.

After that, you may enjoy it with your family and savor its enticing taste!
