Dad buys used car for teen daughter and finds note in glovebox when he goes to clean it

Kentucky resident, Kevin Duke, decided to buy her daughter, Jada, a used car as a present on her 16th birthday.

He still had a couple of weeks to try and test the car out since his daughter’s birthday was in March.

He didn’t know what it’d yield.

As a father, it’s just normal for Kevin to check the running condition of the car to ensure the safety of his daughter once she drives it.

Apart from that, he also checked everything inside the car, and to his surprise, he found something that made him shed a good amount of tears.

The glove box held a note.

It was a letter that’s addressed to them as its new owners.

In fact, he had already checked that part of the car several times. He only discovered the note when he picked up a small rubber mat that hid it.

The envelope said: “Important Info Inside.”

Upon unfolding the letter, it was written by a person who knew the previous owner of the car.

In a Facebook post, Kevin wrote, “Well, yesterday I’m in it tinkering around and I open this storage compartment on top of the dash (which I’ve opened a half dozen times already). This time I notice a rubber mat in the bottom of it and for whatever reason, I pull it out. To my surprise, I find this envelope with this letter inside. I won’t lie, I shed a few tears.”

The letter contained the real story behind the car and its previous owner.

As it turned out, the previous owner of the car already passed away.

The person who wrote the letter who was known by her first name, Sabrina, shared her heartbreaking story.

She wrote, “To the person that gets this car, I just wanted to let you know what a special vehicle you’ve bought. This car belonged to my mom. She passed away Feb. 25, 2015, in a house fire along with my 6-year-old daughter and my aunt. The last time my mom drove this car was the day she left us. Her and my daughter went out shopping and got their hair cut.”

Sabrina shared their beautiful memories with the car and she wished she didn’t need to sell the car.

She wrote that the paperwork for the car got mixed up and it caused the car not to be paid off by the insurance.

The car has a name.

The last thing that holds some of the most beautiful memories that she had with her mom and her daughter was taken away from her.

“It’s very upsetting that I have lost my family, my home and now I’m losing this last link I have with my mom and child through no fault of my own,” she exclaimed.

They named the car Sylvia.

She said it was named by her daughter and humbly asked them not to change the car’s name.

She had one more request.

“If you ever want to sell Sylvia, please try to find me. I just paid for 3 funerals, I can’t afford to buy it right now, but hopefully, I’ll be in a better financial situation if you decide later that she’s just not right for you anymore. Be blessed, be happy, live and love like we did. I wish you and Sylvia the best!”

This heartbreaking yet beautiful story is a reminder that a car isn’t just a mere possession, it can also be a piece of someone’s heart.
