Sweet dog is afraid to go up the escalator – so her Dad carries her instead

With the mental capacity of a two-year-old child, dogs often act like them too. And while they can get fussy from time-to-time, any dog owner will tell you it is all worth it.

So, when a golden retriever refused to go up an escalator, her dad took it all in stride and was there for her in her time of fear.

In a viral video, a man is shown walking through a multi-level shopping mall. With him is his dog. As the two approach the escalator, the dog starts having second thoughts. For some reason, she does not want to go up.

Scared, she pulls against her leash, refusing to budge. Without missing a beat, the man walks up to the dog and crouches down.

Lifting the dog, the dog’s owner carries her in his arms and continues. Carrying the heavy dog like a baby, the man continued on his way up the escalator.

He must love his fur baby to go through all of that trouble for her. In the cute video, the dog can be seen looking around as if she had done all of this before.

Why didn’t they just use the elevator?

The video, which was posted to YouTube, ended up getting over 22,000 views. Many of those watching the video noticed an elevator off to the side of the escalator. This led some to ask why the man didn’t just use the elevator. That option would have been way easier on his back.

Signs of fear in your dog

When your dog shows fear, there is usually a reason behind it, no matter how irrational the fear might seem. Dogs are known for their fear of loud noises, but they also are afraid of such things as being left alone, strange and unfamiliar animals, and normal objects, such as escalators.

The reasons for these fears are just as varied as the number of dogs out there. For the most part, a dog’s fear is caused by past trauma or bad experience, as well as an attempt to get attention from their owners. They can even develop fears as they get older as they become more sensitive with age.

Helping your dog deal with their fears

If you notice your dog showing a fear about something, do your best not to encourage it. This means staying calm in situations where they show the fear, especially if it is irrational, and avoid comforting them. Your comfort might be seen as a reward and cause your dog to resort to such behavior in the future to get rewarded with attention.

You can also take a few steps to help them deal with their fear, especially loud noises. You can swaddle them in a blanket or use an item, such as a ThunderShirt, which creates gentle pressure on their skin and can help comfort them. You can also take them to a professional trainer who can work with your dog to help them deal with their fear.

You should also discuss your dog’s fears with your vet so that they can check them for any conditions that might be causing the fear and come up with a way to treat it.
