Dad who's afraid of needles comforts his baby son who needs his first shots
As a child, getting your first shots is never a pleasant experience. Sometimes, the fear of vaccinations and needles remains deeply present.
First-time father Antwon Lee is absolutely terrified of needles, and he’d even say that getting injected with a needle is one of his greatest fears.
However, sometimes we simply need to get a needle injected, to get a shot for example.
His adorably newborn baby boy Debias King was scheduled for three different vaccinations. He was two months old at the time, and mom and dad knew that this was going to leave a bad taste in the mouth. Antwon, who’s terrified of the thought of needles, was particularly worried and wishes he could take away the pain that his son was about to experience.
Dad and mom Shamekia Harris went to the doctor’s practice with their newborn. After a routine check-up, they knew what was coming.
When it’s time for the vaccinations, dad is holding his baby boy and comforting him, just to make the whole thing a little bit more bearable.
It’s an absolutely adorable sight to behold. Since he himself is terrified of needles and isn’t hiding that, he comforted his son and assured him that it’s really okay to cry.
“I felt kind of scared a little bit, I knew he was going to go through some pain,” the 29-year-old father said to PEOPLE. “I had to figure out a way to comfort him, and the day before, I talked to him and said if he needed to cry, go ahead and cry. That morning when we got there, and I let him know again it was okay to cry.”
The nurse was ready to prepare the vaccinations, and dad was fully focused on making sure his baby boy would be relatively okay. He didn’t even notice that mommy was filming the adorable sight with her smartphone.
“I felt the pain he was going through!” Lee said after the video was posted. “At that moment, there was pressure, but at the same time, it was beautiful.”
As you can probably imagine, baby Debias was crying the whole time, and it broke daddy’s heart.
It’s unbearable to see your own child being in so much pain or discomfort, but dad knew that it needed to be done. He gave Debias a big kiss and waited until the nurse administered the other two shots.
“Oh man, c’mon man, I feel you man! Man no! Man no!”
When it was finally over, daddy picked up his son in the sweetest manner possible and started to cheer him up. It only took seconds until Debias started smiling again!
Mom posted the footage on social media, and it spread around the globe in no time. With millions of views and tens of thousands of comments, the whole world was touched by this warm daddy and son interaction.
The day that his son had to get the shots was actually an incredibly emotional day for Antwon. He’d just received the terrible news that his father passed away.
“I was very emotional. I was the baby son, I was very close to him,” the man said about his dad. “But I don’t deal with good or bad days, I deal with peaceful days. I deal with peaceful days so I know my dad is in a peaceful place.”
Life is short and precious, and this man wanted to make sure that he would raise his son the right way and see him succeed in life.
“I talked to him like a grown up. I let him know there will be a day I’m going to have to die, I’m going to have to leave this world,” he says. “I told him, before I leave, want to see him succeed. I want to see him succeed before I die, that’s all I want.”
“My son is here, I’m signed up for it, and I have a beautiful mom for my child, and I’m going to be with him to the day I die.”
Love is beautiful.
