Dad does his best to ignore dog but hilariously fails
If you’re an owner of a Weimaraner, then you know they are the perpetual two-year-old. They are loveable, active, loyal to a fault, and with the attitude, “It’s all about ME!” But, of course, we love them despite their long list of needs.
Maybe you are considering adding a Weimaraner to your family?
Consider that this dog isn’t for everyone and that they require a lot of attention. They are big, active, and intelligent hunting dogs, with males weighing up to 75lbs and females up to 90lbs. They are ready to exercise, let their tremendous amount of energy, and need to do so for long periods every day. They also prefer to exercise with their human so, you’ll have to dedicate the time.
A Weimaraner’s personality is definitely people-centric. They love the company of humans and will quickly become a human shadow. They will follow you around the house and where ever you go. You won’t have any more privacy. They will be nosing your book while trying to read or even disrupt you while taking a shower. It’s cute, but it can be tough for them too.
“While their need to be with people can be wonderful it also works to their detriment. This characteristic makes them very difficult to kennel and separation anxiety is one of the most prevalent reasons cited when they are given up to Rescue. Crate training is highly recommended and should be part of the Weimaraner’s regular routine” says the WCA.
Now that we’ve brushed up on understanding the traits of a Weimaraner, we can move on to the cute story and the video.
In the video, you will see Gus the Weimy perched upon his dad’s leg. Gus was a shelter dog that the Bingham family rescued and brought into their home. The family wanted to have a little fun with Gus on this day so, they brought out the camera to catch the antics.
From the very start, it doesn’t seem like Gus likes this game. The owners wanted to see how he’d react if they didn’t look at him and not give him the attention he seeks. The owner makes casual looks at Gus, and that seems to rile him up even more.
Gus delivers a couple of barks and other noises to let his dad know he’s not loving the lack of attention. He even tries putting his paw on dad’s should to try and get him to look at him.
Then Gus tries a new tactic. He tries to avoid eye contact, as well. He seems to be playing along and has figured out the rules. Gus does seem to be enjoying this, as you can see his tail wagging during the peek-a-boo session.
Gus jumps down and delivers one last paw to dad to see if dad will give in. But he doesn’t.
It doesn’t take too long for Gus to give up and try his luck with mama.
Do what children do- If you don’t get what you want from one parent, move to the next.
Gus walks over to mama and tries to give those big beautiful eyes a shot to getting what he wants. Mama starts to ask Gus in a whisper, “Do you want to eat? Do you want food? Are you hungry? What do you want? Go get your dish.”
It becomes clear that food was the issue on Gus’s mind. No surprise there!
Gus does a lap around the kitchen, and then, like a good boy, he sits. He sits and stares at mama. He knows, “this is how they want me to sit.”
