Dad finds out bus driver keeps his little girl on bus longer than other kids – learns it's because of her hair
There’s no question that moms are indispensable. Whether they work an outside job or not, at home, they have tons of responsibilities. In addition to making meals, shopping for groceries, doing laundry, and keeping the house up, they also take the kids back and forth to various activities.
That’s not saying dads don’t do their part but overall, it’s usually the mom who keeps the household running smoothly. Moms also have a special gift for certain things that dads struggle with. That includes putting a daughter’s hair in braids or a sweet ballet bun. Patricia Pieri from Utah did all that for her daughter, Isabella.
That was one of their special moments together
Doing different things with Isabella’s hair was one of Patricia’s favorite pastimes. During those moments, the two would talk and giggle…a lot. This 9-year-old and her mother shared a special bond. But then tragedy struck.
Patricia passes away
This mom died from a rare brain illness. Although she was initially diagnosed with it when Isabella was just three, no one thought she’d ever pass away. She was a fighter, someone determined to be around for her husband, Philip, and her daughter. But as fate would have it, her life was cut way too short.
Dad would have to handle all the responsibilities
Philip, only 47, was left to fill his late wife’s shoes. That wasn’t going to be easy. He knew in time he’d figure things out but the one thing he was worried about the most was who would do Isabella’s hair. After all, she was now a preteen without a mom. He tried his best but it wasn’t the same as when Patricia did it.
What happened?
As Philip explained, “She’d get mad at me for pulling her hair. I didn’t know how to do it. One day [Isabella] came home and it looked beautiful. I call her my princess and she looks the part, she plays the part and her confidence is way up, which is what I’ve been intending.” But since it wasn’t her dad who did her hair, who was it?
The bus driver to the rescue
Sure enough, Tracy Dean, also 47, was the driver for Isabell’s bus. Over the course of two years since her mom passed away, Tracy would see this little girl, day after day, trying her best to fix her hair but without much success. One day, Isabella boarded the bus with shorter hair. Her dad, unable to do anything with it, had it cut.
She’s a mom
With four kids, one of them about the same age as Isabella, Tracy knew that especially for girls, appearance means everything. So, she decided to keep her on the bus longer one day to brush and style this little girl’s hair. “We usually do two French braids. I also taught her how to brush her hair,” Tracy said.
Philip was so grateful
He tried, he really did, but it wasn’t working out. For showing kindness to his daughter, he’s eternally grateful for Tracy. Although fixing Isabella’s hair takes time out of this bus driver’s day, she doesn’t mind. Come to find out, Tracy also battled cancer. With the thought of “What if it were my child” in her mind, she knew she had to step in to help.
Tracy goes on to say, “It’s just the way my mom raised me, to be nice to everyone…people who need a little love in their life. I like to give all the kids a chance…even the naughty kids.”
