Dad of quintuplets makes headlines with brilliant parenting hacks
Raising one kid is already challenging. How much more if you have quintuplets?
Parents with multiple births sometimes struggle to care for more than one child simultaneously.
Others are luckier if they have older children who can take over some tasks, but the burden is mainly on the parents. There always seems to be so much to do.
Chad and Amy Kempel had the shock of their lives when they knew they were having quintuplets.
The couple struggled with infertility and experienced miscarriage multiple times, including twin boys, which they lost at 22 weeks.
As much as they wanted to be excited and happy about the news, the Kempels knew it would be a difficult pregnancy, and they prepared for the worst.
The quintuplets were born three months earlier through C-section and had to stay in the NICU for 73 days.
The moment they brought them all home, they knew they had to change many things to accommodate all their kids and ensure their home was child friendly.
So, they removed all furniture and fixtures that may harm their kids and turned their living room into a baby room.
Chad tried to find ways to make their lives easier, especially for Amy.
His workplace is 60 miles away, requiring him to leave as early as 4 AM.
To lighten the load on Amy’s shoulders, he thought of ingenious ways to make feeding, changing diapers, and traveling with seven children easier.
He created innovative ways to do all that and even shared the “Quint Hacks” on their YouTube channel.
For one, he created this prop feeding system to feed all the babies simultaneously.
It’s so simple to use: you just have to insert the bottle in the slot and give it to the baby. It is also angled like one would hold a feeding bottle.
Chad also thought of putting the clothes on top of the other on the changing table.
He said it was easier to change their diapers and onesies when they did it individually.
They put the baby on, change the diapers, put on their onesies, and then move on to the next baby!
When the babies grew older, Chad thought of customizing their dining table.
Instead of buying highchairs for all five children, he designed a table that would make it easier to feed them at once.
They cut slots between the table and placed a seat. Chad or Amy can sit on one side and reach out to feed one baby, then the next, and so on.
Another thing they had to change was their vehicle.
They converted their van into a baby bus to fit seven car seats for their children and a changing table inside.
Plus, a television to entertain the older kids while changing the quintuplets. It’s a win-win situation for everyone!
Despite the challenges, the couple loved every moment with their children.
“It’s awesome. I love having all these kids. It was terrifying, but having them here happy and healthy now, this is amazing,” Chad told NowThis News.
