Dads put on pink tutus and put on a hilarious ballet performance to Swan Lake

Believe it or not, thereâs more than one video on YouTube of a group of dads in tutus dancing to the music of Swan Lake.
While we donât know much about this particular version other than that it was uploaded in 2017 and performed at a âWomenâs Dayâ celebration, thereâs little else we really need to know in order to enjoy it.

Good sports
The 8 men are in good spirits before their performance, and one appears to direct someone to begin recording or playing the music before they bound out onto the floor.
And theyâre more graceful than we expected!

Presumably, the goal was to amuse their families, and we have no doubt there were equal bits mortified and delighted. After all, those are some tight tights and short tutus!
They deserve some credit for gearing up properly for the performance.

Theyâve got the moves
Theyâve got their 5 basic positions down, including some hand movements, so we know theyâre not just performing this dance on the fly. And while theyâre not always in perfect sync, itâs clear that the performance was choreographed and practiced.

In fact, they have better balance than we do sometimes â good on them!
An amused audience
As the dads do their best to entertain, the audience cackles in amusement at the sight.
To their credit, the men manage to keep straight faces throughout the performance â this is the night they practiced for and they are going to pull it off with style!

âDance of the Little Swansâ
The men are performing âDanse des petits cygnesâ from Tchaikovskyâs ballet. Itâs part of the second act and is notoriously difficult because it requires great precision on the part of the dancers. The goal is to be in sync completely, so any falter ruins the illusion.
Luckily, these gentlemen are going for a different look.

While we donât think theyâre inspired by any particular choregrapher, one famous interpretation largely sums up their maneuvers:
âLev Ivanovâs choreographyâcreated for the 1895 revival of Swan Lakeâwas meant to imitate the way cygnets huddle and move together for protection. Four dancers enter the stage in a line and move across with their arms crossed in front of one another, grasping the next dancersâ hands. They move sideways, doing sixteen pas de chat. Ideally, the dancers move in exact or near-exact unison. At the very end, they break their chain and try to âflyâ, only to drop to the ground.â
Close enough, right?

A grand finale
As they link arms and then âfly away,â the audience cheers the âlittle swansâ as they finally land in formation.

And though they happen to be big, burly men, weâre so impressed that they werenât too proud to put on a show for their kids and partners, who clearly got great joy out of it and gave them the round of applause they deserved.
