Family gathers after funeral to dance to man's favorite song
Death is a reality that comes with the gift of life. While we never look forward to the death of those that are close to us, we can celebrate their life. Many funerals are a reflection of that individual’s life.
Different funeral styles are different ways to express someone’s life.
The style of the funeral that one has is an expression of who that person was and their culture. Some have a very somber and contemplative funeral that allows you to mourn and grieve in relative silence. Others want to have a “celebration of life” and want there to be a party with lots of people!
This man decided he wanted to have a party after his funeral!
When Joe Nowak passed away in 2011, his family knew which kind of funeral he wanted to have! Getting together and working on a plan, his friends and family decided they were going to do something special to celebrate his life.
You could tell that Joe had an impact on many people in his life.
As the event started, there were a ton of people who showed up! He obviously was a very caring and sociable person. As they arrived, people got into place for the surprise the family had planned.
Joe was always a lover of music, but one song was special for him.
Many people only listen to one stream of music, but Joe was pretty varied in his tastes. One thing was for sure, however. Joe Nowak loved the country song Copperhead Road.
Copperhead Road was an ’88 single released by Steve Earl.
Seeing some commercial success, the song reached top ten on the Billboard Rock charts and was Earls’s highest-peaking song. The song was a country hit and was Joe’s favorite song of all time.
An interesting song for a funeral!
No love ballad, Copperhead Road is about moonshine, drugs, and death. It was pretty raw and was about the difficulty and reality of life. For Joe, it was perfect.
More than just playing the song, the family did much more.
Wanting to remember the song in light of Joe, everyone moved to the church parking lot after the ceremony was over. Playing the song on speakers, the entire group danced in sync to the song!
Hitting a line dance routine, everyone was welcome.
Regardless of the person or what they were wearing, everyone was welcome to join in and dance to the song. What a way to remember a dear friend.
Some watched while others danced.
Even though not everyone danced, many of his closest friends and family got down with it. Even if people weren’t dancing, you can tell they are enjoying the moment as everyone has a great time.
A funeral and a celebration.
Joe definitely would have been proud of the performance and the fact that it was not a somber day. The celebration of life style of doing things is often a great way to send someone off.
People seemed to love the video!
Surpassing one million views, people love to see such a thoughtful gesture. Joe may have even been smiling from wherever it is that people go.
