Those who took care of foster dogs only have one dream.

The moment a dog comes under their care, the only goal is to rehabilitate them and shower them with love so it could be adopted as soon as possible.

But sometimes, a caretaker or a volunteer can have conflicting feelings. Sometimes, seeing the dogs they took care of being taken away by their forever family. You want them to be happy but it hurts that it won’t be with you.

Hallee Fuqua has always wanted a dog.

She has been asking her parents every Christmas but her parents insisted that she finish college first before taking in new responsibilities.

But Hallee had so much love to give so to release that, she volunteered at a local shelter. As a part of the shelter staff, she walks and plays with the dogs.

One of the dogs she took care of was a two-year-old Plott Hound mix named Rambo.

The dog has been through a lot so much so that the director of the shelter, Jackie Ross-Guerrero described him as the kind of dog that was “hard to place.”

He weighs about 70 pounds and is already an adult. He also looks like a pitbull, a breed that had gained significant notoriety in the past years.

But Rambo is far from what others perceive him to be.

Fortunately for him, Hallee is ready to give him a chance. She soon found out that Rambo is a big fluff of loving energy.

She described him as a chill and quiet dog who just loves to sit and soak himself in her affection. She said that he also loves to cuddle as if he was a lap dog.

Hallee connected with Rambo in ways others can’t.

The more she took of him, the more she grew attached to him. Eventually, she began sending videos to his parents. In one of these videos, Hallee’s mom saw something in Rambo and Hallee that convinced her to finally make a decision.

They then contacted the shelter to formally adopt Rambo but without Hallee knowing. So, when Rambo’s status changed from “available” to “adopted”, Hallee was heartbroken.

Then, one Sunday, the family prepared their household for the coming holiday season.

Hallee was asked not to look because they were carrying Christmas presents into the house.

Hallee must’ve thought that the presents contained a pleasant surprise but she didn’t know that her present was waiting for her outside all along.

Hallee’s mom then sent her a message to open the door for his dad.

She did what she was told and found her dad sitting on the driveway with a familiar face. It took some moments of processing before Hallee understood what was happening.

There, right beside her dad and wearing some glittery antler ears, was Rambo. Hallee began to cry and ran immediately to the dog who welcomed her presence heartily.

The Fuquas shared the heartwarming video to raise funds for the Humane Society of Stillwater.

They shared the reality that even if some dogs do get adopted, the number of dogs staying or being taken in outpaces the adoption numbers.

“We have so many great adult dogs and cats but we get calls every day from people looking for puppies and kittens,” Humane Society director Jackie Ross-Guerrero said. “I try to tell them, ‘In eight months that puppy is going to look just like that dog.’”

Rambo has since settled nicely in his new home. Hopefully, more animals experience this kind of love so they can live their life in abundance.
