Quarantine has seen us cooped up inside day after day, experiencing boredom on a whole new level. For some of us, that boredom has encouraged us to practice something random but fairly beneficial, like stretching to touch our toes and learning to finger-crochet. Some of us have even started exercising like never before.

And then there are the people who make a more comical use of their time.

The people who have created a domino trail around their entire home. Those who have separated their container of mixed herbs into piles of each individual herb. The people who have spent hours practicing ping pong trick shots. And Kristen Vogler, who has been slowly replacing all the family photos in her living room with crayon drawings.

Volger wondered just how long it would take her mom and dad to realize that the family photos that lined her family home’s walls were starting to look a little different. So she did what anyone who is bored out of their mind in quarantine would do: she decided to test the theory out.

With the whole family on lockdown, Volger had plenty of time to get busy. We’ve seen a lot of family pranks during these past few weeks, some of which seem a bit mean. But Volger’s is totally light-hearted and fun.

Volger took her inspiration from a prank she’d seen online. In the prank, the family photos were replaced by photos of Nicholas Cage. Funny, but Volger wanted to go one step further. She decided that crayon drawings were the way to achieve that.

Day 1

Volger shared an image of her first photo swap – an image of her grandparents – to Facebook, writing:

“The first crayon drawing is placed, bets were made on how many photos and how long it would take them to notice.”

Day 2

On the second day, Volger swapped the photo to the left of her grandparents – a photo of her and her sisters. Her parents still hadn’t noticed.

Day 3

Day 3 saw Volger replace a black-and-white photo with her own version. We have to admit, this one is more difficult to spot from afar.

Day 4

On Day 4, Volger thought her fun was over. Her mom created a Twitter account – and Volger had been posting her progress to her own Twitter feed. Luckily, her mom didn’t notice.

Day 5

Volger’s drawings were now becoming more detailed, as she was left to tackle the bigger family photos – and her parents still hadn’t noticed!

Day 6

By day 6, Volger had to convince her mom to go on a run so that she could put the drawing on the wall while she was out of the house.

Day 7

Volger had this to say on day 7:

“Today was a twofer with these classic Christmas photos. At this point, I was starting to think I should have guessed based on weeks and not days for how long it would take them to notice.”

Day 8

After 8 days and 8 picture replacements, Volger’s parents were still somehow none the wiser.

Day 9

Day 9 saw all photos bar three replaced with Volger’s drawings.

Day 10

The 10th day just happened to be Easter, but Volger still managed to replace the top-left photo in her parents’ collection.

Day 11

11 days in and Volger was still getting away with her prank. She nearly got caught with the new crayon drawing, and had to hide in the bathroom.

And then, 7 hours later, a miracle happened.

Volger’s mom noticed there was something not quite right with the wall of photos.

Of course, this was a moment that had to be filmed. Volger dashed down the stairs with her phone in hand to capture her mom’s hilarious reaction.

Kudos to Volger for having the dedication to keep up with her prank for nearly 2 weeks! You can watch the video of her parents checking out her crayon drawings below.
