Daughter's funny tweets help land dad his dream job at Costco

Parents will do everything for their children and vice versa (when the time comes).

We can all agree that our parents deserve everything after their sacrifices to give us a comfortable life. What we give back is only a fraction of everything they gave, but we do it anyway. It’s the least we could do to show our appreciation and love.

Here’s a heartwarming – and funny – story of a daughter’s love.

Rebecca Mix, a young and budding writer in Michigan, wanted to give back to her father by helping him get his dream job. Jeff was laid off as Materials Coordinator in their local hospital after working there for a decade.

Jeff worked for most of his life, and losing his job made him feel lost.

He wanted to work and get on his feet. Rebecca felt she ought to help her father. They discussed where he wanted to work, and he said he wanted work “somewhere who appreciates him until he retires.”

Pretty broad, but they trimmed it down to either UPS, FedEx, or Costco.

Jeff said he liked the thought of working for UPS and FedEx because he gets to travel around. However, he thought they lived 15 minutes from the nearest Costco, and he heard that employees were treated well there.

Rebecca had a complete idea of what her dad wanted, so she made her move.

She helped him update his resume and had her boyfriend check it (since he reads tons of applications at work). She also registered a new email for her father because the one he had was an old one (older than her!) and was very much “dad-like.”

Then, Rebecca did something unconventional: she posted a tweet about his dad’s job hunt.

The entire thread contained Rebecca’s intention of the tweet and the backstory behind it. She wasn’t sure if what she did would reap anything since she knew Costco didn’t have a Twitter account.

But lo and behold, somebody reached out to her after nearly a couple of weeks.

It seemed like Costco’s CEO read her tweet and was sold on hiring her father. After all, she tweeted how her dad “works obnoxiously & is painfully helpful.” She also posted that “he is but a constantly cheerful man, extremely good at making nachos.” I mean… who doesn’t want someone like that in their company?

Jeff sent his application, went to a couple of interviews, and then sent Rebecca this:

He made it! And Rebecca was very proud of her father. She thanked all the people who cheered her father on, especially since she didn’t expect her tweet would help her dad get his dream job.

The entire Twitterverse celebrated with Rebecca, too, and sent their congrats!

And while Jeff is not on Twitter, nor does he know how it works, he was grateful, nonetheless. This, people, is how we can use social media to good use. This may not always work for everyone, but it did help Jeff get back on his feet.
