Mom infuriated after catching daycare worker breastfeeding her son against her wishes

A North Carolina woman is infuriated with a daycare worker after she was found breastfeeding her son against her wishes. The Carrboro-based mom couldn’t believe her eyes when she was shown the security footage showing the worker putting her son to her breast, and now she’s seeking legal action.

The footage was recorded on the Carrboro Early School security cameras, and the evidence is pretty damning. The video shows the daycare worker pulling down her shirt and pressing the baby to her chest momentarily.

After seeing it for herself, Kaycee Oxendine, the baby’s mother, is holding out hope that the police will press charges against the employee.

Oxendine works at the school as a pre-kindergarten teacher. According to her, the nusery teacher told her that her 3-month-old son had been suffering with constipation. That’s when another daycare worker chimed in and offered to breastfeed Oxendine’s baby for her, explaining it would help with the constipation.

Oxendine refused the breastfeeding offer not once, but twice.

She said that she had a son and did I want her to put my child to her breast and breastfeed? And I said ‘no, that’s nasty. We don’t do things like that,’” Oxendine recalls in a media interview.

Even though Oxendine explicitly refused the worker’s offer, moments later the security camera shows the woman pulling out her breast and pessing Oxendine’s son to it. The mom says the incident took place just after the conversation when she had left the room.

As a mom, you’ve taken something from me, because I wasn’t able to defend my child. I wasn’t there,” exclaims the mom.

The Carrboro Early School’s Director explained that the daycare worker in the video had been fired.

The worker has over a decade of educating experience, has maintained her license, and cleared all required background checks. Even so, that makes her decision to go against Oxendine’s wishes even more disturbing. She should really know better.

Though the woman was fired, Oxendine doesn’t feel it’s enough.

She wants the woman to face criminal charges for her actions. Oxendine’s son was born prematurely, and he has also been deemed lactose intolerant since being born. Until that day, he had never had breastmilk before. When Oxendine got him home, her son started vomiting and she had to take him to the hospital.

To me, a criminal act was committed against him. Not only did you put your breast to my son, you also made my son sick because he’s lactose intolerant. So you’ve put something in his body that his body can’t digest,” she said.

According to a statement given by the District Attorney, whether or not the daycare worker will face charges is up to the police department.

This is a very unusual case. I’ve been practicing criminal law for over 32 years and I’ve never seen anything quite like this,” he said.

Oxendine has been clear that the daycare Director has done everything in his power to resolve the matter and help her seek justice. She’s not upset with either him or the daycare. She is, however, very upset with the irresponsible employee who took her son’s health into her own hands.

The police said they would be investigating the matter, but not necessarily pressing charges.

Though breastmilk is generally the healthiest option for a baby, medical professionals explain that there are certain risks when it comes to giving a baby breastmilk from a woman other than their mother.

Human milk has the potential to contain infectious agents as well as medications or drugs a woman may be using and transmit them to the baby who consumes it,” they said.

While it remains to be seen whether the woman will be charged, it has certainly sparked an interesting conversation about the legality of breastfeeding a child against the mother’s will. To learn more about this story, watch the video below.
