Deaf dog is stung hundreds of times by bees, so owners dump him at a shelter
Just like people, dogs can have a variety of sensory handicaps, such as blindness or deafness. These pets rely on their owners to care for them and make sure that they have what they need to live a good life. So, you can imagine the amount of betrayal that a poor, deaf pit bull must have felt when his family abandoned him at the shelter after he suffered hundreds of bee stings.
Stinger is brought in with life-threatening bee stings
The deaf pit bull, named Stinger by shelter staff, arrived at the shelter covered in blisters. The vets at the shelter were at a loss over how to treat the poor pit bull. They planned to have him euthanized. Fortunately, for Stinger, a nearby animal rescue took an interest in his case.
LuvnPupz comes to the rescue
After Carri Shipaila heard about Stinger, she just had to help him. She drove for over an hour to pick Stinger up from the shelter, taking him back to the LuvnPupz rescue, which she runs. Located in Grand Rapids, Michigan, LuvnPupz seeks to rescue, rehabilitate, and rehome unwanted dogs, mainly through a foster-based program.
Shipaila said: “An emergency vet clinic called me after speaking with animal control realizing the shelter would have to euthanize as they couldn’t treat a dog in his condition. Not to mention keeping him alive would expose him to many illnesses caused by his condition.”
“The minute I got the phone call about Stinger I jumped in the car and drove over an hour to the clinic,” Shipaila continued. “When I saw him, I knew he needed us, no matter the costs.”
Shipaila never gave up on Stinger
And while his original family refused to reclaim him, Shipaila never lost hope in Stinger. She immediately got to work to save him by first treating his bee stings. In the process, she also found and treated a secondary skin infection and sarcoptic mange. An unfortunate side effect of the bee stings was that Stinger developed Pemphigus, an autoimmune disease.
Stinger finds a forever home
In addition, his ongoing care expenses are so expensive that he will never be adopted. He is lucky to have found a foster willing to take him in while still receiving the care he needs from LuvnPupz. The blisters from the countless bee stings have healed and he now has a stunning white coat of fur.
