Elizabeth and Scott Shoesmith from Sydney, Australia, got married in 2018 after meeting on Tinder. Almost 2 million people have watched their wedding ceremony on YouTube. Because Scott is deaf, Liz decided to surprise him by learning sign language to translate the lyrics of Christina Perri’s “A Thousand Years” to him.

When they first met on Tinder in 2016, Liz didn’t know that Scott was deaf.

Lovebirds described their meeting as “the best swipe right of their lives.” At first, Scott didn’t reveal that he was deaf, but it didn’t take long until Liz checked his social media out of curiosity.

She found out that Scott was playing for the Australian Deaf Wallabies. It wasn’t hard for Elizabeth to piece the two and two together, but that didn’t stop her from going on a date with Scott.

Luckily, their first date was a jackpot, and Liz later revealed that she never felt “more heard.”

Scott and Elizabeth prove that love has no boundaries. Moreover, life has no limitations as long as you opt for being non-judgemental. Elizabeth is a mother of two, and Scott was more than thrilled to welcome her two children into his life. Liz’s 16-year-old son Dominic is the one who walked her down the aisle.

To be precise, Liz chose to forgo the traditional walk, and Dominic left her at the beginning of the aisle.

The groom was confused to see Elizabeth at the other end of the aisle without moving, but as soon as their eyes locked, it was clear that something magical was about to happen.

Elizabeth didn’t want to walk towards Scott before she had delivered a special surprise. For months before their wedding, Liz was learning Auslan, the Australian sign language. She wanted to learn it because of Scott.

Although Scott knew how to read lips, most deaf people catch about 60% of words when they read lips, and Liz wanted to make it easy for both of them. She chose “A Thousand Years,” the music went on, and Elizabeth signed every word for Scott without making a single mistake.

Scott was crying the whole time, and his wife’s love visibly touched him.

When the song was over, Elizabeth walked to Scott, they hugged, and he signed, “You’re beautiful.”

A couple chose an intimate wedding ceremony, and all guests were in awe of their romance. It was an actual emotions overload situation. After the wedding, the happy couple went to Fiji for their honeymoon.

Three years later, and they are still going strong. The Shoesmiths run Inclusive Foundation, a non-profit organization with the mission of creating a healthy environment where everyone is included.

When asked about the challenges in their communication, Elizabeth joked that she “can’t run out of toilet paper and call out for him.”

Apart from being beautiful, Liz is a funny lady. Both she and Scott cherish their relationship a lot, and Scott even had the words “I see you” engraved in Elizabeth’s ring.
