Authorities seek answers about deceased German shepherd found wrapped in a shower curtain
Dogs are such lovable companions that no normal person would think of hurting one. So, when a deceased German Shepherd was found in County Donegal in Ireland, the local community was understandably up in arms.
Now, the Irish Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ISPCA) is making an appeal for information as to the identity of the dog’s killer.
Found in a drainage pit
Located in Northern Ireland, County Donegal is in the Province of Ulster and is the fourth largest county in Ireland. Known for its mountainous terrain, the area has multiple drainage pits dotting the region to allow for the flow of water from the higher elevations down to the coast.
Notifying the ISPCA
It was in one of these drainage areas that the German shepherd’s body was found. A member of the public was the first to notify the organization of the presence of the dog’s body. When found, the dog was wrapped in a shower curtain as if it was no more than a common piece of trash.
A shocking incident
Quickly arriving at the scene, senior ISPCA inspector Kevin McKinley was shocked by what he found.
“It was shocking and irresponsible to discover an animal discarded in this manner, clearly showing no respect for either the dog or the environment,” McKinley said in a statement.
Looking for a microchip
The female German shepherd was taken to a local location for further examination. Once there, it was discovered that the dog was not microchipped, making identifying her body that much more difficult.
“I scanned the deceased dog for a microchip and although microchipping is a legal requirement there was no chip present, making it difficult to locate an owner,” McKinley said.
Dogs are usually microchipped to make it easier for them to be reunited with their owners when they are lost. Microchips usually contain such information as the owner’s name and the address at which they lived when the chip was implanted. Also, microchip information should be updated if an owner moves.
Looking for who dumped the dog
“Investigations are continuing and we are appealing to the public to get in touch in confidence with any information to assist us with our inquiries,” McKinley added.
